Week 15: Reflection

1. I feel that this course does give the students the level of expertise in the discipline of biblical  studies. The students are presented with new material that gets them thinking. The students are exposed to the history of how others think and how they put the their knowledge of the present to work. This course goal implies the serious teaching of biblical studies and how much people believed in something great. It also helps realize the real from the fake. We have learned that history is rewriting itself and we need to learn from our mistakes. This course shows how important it is to do your research and make sure that your information is correct and precise.

2. I believe this course does provide the tools needed to read the Bible in an academic and critical manner. This course tells and teaches us to look deeper into situations and read beyond what is right in front of us. We learn the tools and techniques to use when reading the Bible and how we can look past words and see what the words are really trying to tell us. I believe this course has embedded in the tools we need to criticize certain readings in the Bible and put them to use in our everyday life. These tools can help us  in life when presented with a reading that recquires looking beyond the surface and dig deeper in reading pull a great thought out.

3. I definitely believe that this course improved out ability  to effectively communicate and to write clearly matters involving critcial thinking. In this course we were pushed to think outside the box. We pushed a students read and think critically. We were held to high standard and to be able to think on top of our feet. We also recieved the tool to communicate with others in conversations that involved critical thinking. I truly believed we went past our own personal goals and went further than we ever could. We personally pushed ourselves to think critically and do everything critically basically. I, myself know that I have defintely improved my critical thinking and I truly owe that accomplishment to this course.

4. I personally think that this is the most important goal of the course. In everything we do in life we are told to make a difference. When presented with the project by Dr. Homan we got that exact to chance to do that. Each project had its own approach on how to improve the world. With helping each other and commenting on each project we are improving the world as we speak. By helping improve each other we are improving ourselves as people and as students. We are learning new techniques and approaches to help solve our societies problems. We are bouncing ideas of each and eventually those ideas will come together to create a newly, improved world. And this newly, improved world will help stop all ill epidemics and prove to our society that with teamwork and understanding we can make a difference and help stop war, ignorance, poverty, etc.

I agree with Paul. Everyone needs to have faith in something in order to continue and to push on. To me faith is more important than the law, the works. We must put our faith into something. Without faith we basically have nothing. We have faith in ourselves and we need to continue to have that faith and not let anyone or anything get in the way of that.

I felt the best part of class was when we would discuss the current events going on. Not only did everyone put in their opinion but we also related them to the topic we were studying that day in class. Well sometimes, well not that often actually. Just kidding. But I truly enjoyed hearing other opinions on what was going on in the world. I like to hear how others think and how they feel about our society and why we are going the problems we are going through. This part of class really captured my attention but also another part would be the project. We really got step outside of class do something we all found intriguing and find a way to change the world we live in.

The worst part of the class for me would honestly have to be the midterm. I honestly felt that there was way too much material to study but understand that you must make sure we know the material. I felt I could have prepared better for the exam. The fact of just memorizing terms and facts do not catch my attention. I like to see how things work and why they work that way. I would say that I am a hands on type of person and I like to touch and feel what I am learning.

Yes, I definitely believe this course should be part of the core curriculum at Xavier. Ever since I could remember I have always attended a Catholic school. With this class I have learned about other faith and why they believe the way they do. This cours definitely gives every student a chance to step outside their comfort zone and take on a new journey. And now I truly believe that faith and peoples beliefs are essential to everyones life.

My major field is biology. I want to be a doctor and I believe that as a doctor you need to have a good bed side manner and understand that if a family does not want a procedure done due to their faith you need understand that. With this course I have learned to respect other cultures as well as faith. Even if I do not agree with the families decision  I must respect their decision and their faith. Respect is a huge thing when it comes to faith. I have also learned that my faith is not the only faith that exists and that I must open my eyes to new things. When looking into new things you can discover new things about yourself that you didn’t even know existed.

After writing, 12, 230 words for our theology blogs, I felt that I have successfully completed the course. THANK YOU AND ENJOY.
