This week focus on how the implementation of your project is proceeding. What makes a good king according to the Deuteronomistic Historian? Would the Deuteronomistic Historian approve of George W. Bush? Why or why not? What is the worst thing that David did? Describe the Jerusalem Temple. What is the history of the first and second temples?
So far my project has been going pretty good. I try to volunteer Monday through Thursday from about three to six. The usual schedule is the kids doing home work for an hour then they get a snack. After the snack the kids do they homework and ask questions if needed. While the students do there homework I usually work with the kids that have a test the following day. My favorite part about tutoring so far has been meeting all the children. I’ve met many new kids since I’ve been volunteering. Some are very eager to learn while others are forced to be there by their parents. The age of my students range from six to thirteen. Most of my younger students have a problem with completing their homework. They are mostly concerned with going outside and play! However I don’t allow them to play until all homework is complete. I try to create fun ways to make them want to do their homework. I sometimes call competitions to see who could actually complete their work first. One of my students favorite games is the spelling bee. This helps them when they have to remember how to spell words for their test. I have a few kids who are having difficulty reading. Mostly around the age of six and seven. Most of the kids that struggle with their reading skills do very well with math. Go figure! The kids that do well in math are usually more eager than the other student. I love the fact that they always want to help there fellow classmates if they are struggling. My older kids have been struggling preparing for the LEAP test. Most of them are excited about entering high school but the one thing holding them back is the LEAP test. We did many exercises to help them prepare for their week of testing such as timed quizzes, and test. Besides the leap test my older students were doing well. They completed all of their homework but had a few issues with study skills. They didn’t perform as well on test as they could have because they were never properly taught how to study. I took a lot of time with my older kids helping them to prepare for test when they were approaching. Overall my project is going well. Hopefully my students have a successful school year.
A good king according to Deuteronomistic Historian is one who is humble about his position. The Deuteronomist Historian said that the best kings were those who put God first always, followed the path that He set out for them, and who trusted that God was with them without doubt. A king that does not gloat about his position as king and knows that his greatness is due to God. A Deuteronomistic Historian would not approve of a type of leader like Hitler. Not only because he was a sick murderer, but because he manipulated people to gain power. I believe a deuteronomistic historian would approve of a leader like Barrack Obama because he worked hard but he kept his religion with him along the way. He knows where he came from ant what brought him that far. I don’t think that George W. Bush would get the approval from a deuteronomistic Historian because his unappreciative success. George Bush is very wealthy and tends to tend to the needs of those like himself.
The worst thing David ever did was commit adultery. When he slept with the wife of a soldier at war, Uriah, many problems came about. He accidentally got the women pregnant and attempted to cover up his mistakes. David tries to get Uriah to return home and be with his wife so that her pregnancy would be connected to him. Uriah, being the loyal man that he is, refuses to come inside his home and lay with his wife because the battle was not done. Out of options, David sends Uriah to his general with specific instructions that he be sent in the front lines so that he would be killed. When he is killed, David thinks that he has pulled things off perfectly, The Lord being clearly upset with him, sent him a messenger, Nathan, to notify him that his deeds did not go unnoticed and that David would not go unpunished. In return for his crimes, David is told that the child of his affair will die. David’s son did not survive probably due to his sins. Most people believe, because of his disobedience to God he was not allowed to enjoy the life of his son. Situations like that occur today all the time. When something bad happens to us we sometimes find ourselves blaming a past sin we have committed.
The first temple was built by Solomon in Jerusalem on Mt. Moriah next to his Palace as a symbolic understanding that his was assigned by God as ruler and was thus on the side of the Lord. The temple was built by David’s son Solomon. The temple was sixty cubits in length, twenty cubits wide, and thirty cubits tall. The temple was made up of two large rooms. The temple had two large pillars at the entrance. The temple had smaller storage places located along the outer area. On the inside, it consisted of three areas: the vestibule, the Holy Place, and the Holy of Holies. The Holy of Holies was where the Ark was placed. It took Solomon seven years to complete the temple. The temple was later destroyed when the Babylonians invaded Jerusalem. Then in 19 BCE, Herod the Great began renovations on the temple. He expanded the platform and built underground vaults. This expansion made it the largest sanctuary in antiquity.

Tutoring is a very good thing to do. I like how you are focusing on study skills now at a considerably younger age than college. If they can accomlish to get good study habits in high school their high school to college transition will be so much easier.

Great job proactively implementing your project and getting yourself out there in the community. I have tutored pretty much every year since highschool and think that is so gratifying to see a student understand something when you have helped them with it. Great job. You definitely have the opportunity to positively impact these children’s lives!

I love the idea of your project. There are many kids that have a potential but just need a little extra help and support. YOu are doing a great thing. Good work.
