Respond to comments on your project. What is the difference between source and textual criticism? Summarize Tobit, and what is the main lesson of this story? Why do some people consider the Maccabees to be heroic.
I want to thank everyone who took the time to comment on my project. It means a lot to me that you voiced your opinions. My project means a lot to me and everyones opinion will be taken into consideration.
Hey Whitney! Thank you so much for the support. I definitely agree that kids in New Orleans don’t have the same opportunities as children in other cities. I also agree that if parents don’t step up to the plate their children won’t be able to perform to the best of their abilities.
Shanee thanks for the comment. I know that it is not always easy to work with children but I truly believe they need my help. I have put in a lot of time to making these kids feel better and I hope it pays off. Thanks again for taking time out to comment on my project.
Mildred Wallace, Thanks for the comment. The literacy rate is very important and I hope to increase. Learning to read is very important in a young kids education because it gives them strength and confidence. Without literacy the future is hopeless for our kids. Thanks again for taking the time to voice your opinion about my project.
Katey James. Thanks for the comment. I agree that this project is not just helping the world today, it is also improving our future. The kids today are a reflection of what our future holds for us. I hope that my project helps kids create goals and achieve them all. Thanks again for comment, I really appreciate you taking out time to give your opinion on my project.
Tobit came from Apocrypha bible and it talks about a man that have live righteously all his life, he have been known for respecting the dead. He is a Jewish man who has respect for other dead Jews. He always give the dead a proper burial even though King Sennacherib told him not to. He is willing to risk his life for doing the right thing. Tobit is an honorable man indeed. The King somehow finds out about what he was doing and exiled him. After the death of the King, he was able to return to home of Nineveh. He then continues on doing what he do best, buries the dead. So he buries another Jew who has been murdered. That night, while he was sleeping with his eyes open, a bird pooped in his eyes, and he became blind. He then always has to depend on his wife. Being handicap from his main senses he becomes very aggravated and irritated. He wants to die right away. All of a sudden he realizes that someone owed him money, so he attempts to give all of his inheritance to his family before he dies. By doing so he tells his son Tobias to go and retrieve the money. Once he has received his money, he can then die in peace. Tobias goes on a journey to collect his father’s money. While on his journey, he met this angel who disguises himself as one of Tobit’s follower name Raphael. Raphael then accompanies young Tobias on his quest for his father’s money. Raphael also protects and guides him along the way. During his quest, Tobias and Raphael was attack by a fish. They were able to catch the fish and kill it. They kept the fish’s heart, liver, and gull bladder for later use. On the way they met a girl name Sarah. Sarah is like a “black widow” that has been known for many bad luck. She married seven times and all of her husband was somehow killed by a powerful demon of lust. Tobias and Sarah somehow fell in love with each other. They wanted to get married so badly, but they were scared of the demon that killed her other seven husbands. Raphael tells them in order to drive away the demon; you must burn the fish’s liver and heart. Tobias did what he was instructed to do, and the demon ran as far away as he could. Raphael then chases the demon and kills it. Sarah’s father saw that Tobias was not killed after the marriage, decided to arrange for a longer feast. Tobias asks Raphael to go to town and retrieve his father’s money. Tobias then return home with his father’s money. Raphael then instructs Tobias to rub the fish’s gull bladder in his father’s eyes. In doing so he was cured from his blindness. Raphael then reveals his identity as an angel and everything came into place again.
I think this story is telling us to not give up so easily. Just because it seems that there is no way we could continue with life doesn’t mean its time for death. There are many times in our lives when we feel like we just cant go on, but somehow we always make it through. When Tobit becomes blind he believes it is his time to go. But God had a different story in mind. The Angel could represent a friend or family member that could help you along the way.
The difference between textual criticism and source criticism is the original place it comes from. Textual criticism originates from the actual source its self. There is no questioning whether textual criticism is biased or not. However source criticism is an opinion from another opinion. You could never actually be sure if source criticism is accurate.
Macabees is considered a hero because of his fearless endeavors. Macabees is not afraid of his enemies and faces them head on every time. He also had a large group of people that had faith in him. They truly believe that he can do anything and their support helps him become a better hero. A hero is not always the person that can win the fight but the person that is not afraid of a challenge
