President Barack Obama
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Ave. NW
Washington, DC 20500

Dear Mr. President,
I am Janet Le, a junior at Xavier University, I am writing to you today to address a serious problem America is facing today. This problem is underage drinking. I have done my research and according to the national institution of alcohol abuse and alcoholism, “A survey focusing on the alcohol-related problems experienced by 4,390 high school seniors and dropouts found that within the preceding year, approximately 80 percent reported either getting “drunk,” binge drinking, or drinking and driving. More than half said that drinking had caused them to feel sick, miss school or work, get arrested, or have a car crash (5).” This is a high percentage of kids getting drunk and engaging in these intolerable acts. Would you want your girls to grow up in a society like this? I seriously think not. My purpose of this letter is to let you be aware of this problem and find a way to fix it. So far, what I have done to reduce this problem was talk to the people in my community about this issue and hope to influence them not to break this law and provide alcohol to minors. I believe that your responsibility is to actually enforce this law by increasing the fines and longer imprisonment to those who are selling alcohol to minors. Hopefully you will put this problem into your consideration of trying to make this world a better place. The happiness of this country is in your hands, so let’s try and focus on how to make this world a better place. Thank you for your time.
A Very concerned citizen,
Janet Le
Congressman Joseph Cao
4640 So. Carrollton Ave. Suite 120
New Orleans, LA 70119

Dear Congressman Cao,
I am Janet Le, a Junior at Xavier University and also a member of the Mary Queen of Vietnam church, I am here to address an important matter our community/country is facing. This problem we are facing today is underage drinking. I have done much research on this topic and apparently there is a VERY high percent of underage drinking. I am hoping that you can find a way to reduce this problem, possibly by sending out more secret shoppers to catch those who are providing these minors the opportunity to get a hold of alcohol. This is a major problem because most minors brains are so immature that when they are influenced with alcohol, they tend to try and act tough and say they are not drunk and get behind the wheel, which risk the lives of many citizens and can possibly risk yours and your family’s life. Once again this is a really important matter to everyone in this country and so the right thing and help solve/reduce this problem. Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Janet Le
Mayor C. Ray Nagin
1300 Perdido St.
New Orleans, La. 70112

Dear Mayor Ray Nagin,
My name is Janet Le, and I am a current student at Xavier University. I am here to address that there is a major problem in our city/ country. Apparently, this problem is underage drinking. I have done many research and studies showed that there is a VERY high percentage rate of underage drinking and car accidents related to this problem. Being that we are in New Orleans and everyone love to go to the bars on Bourbon, I have seen people in those bars that don’t belong there. Possibly because they have a fake ID or maybe these bars aren’t checking ID’s strict enough. I honestly believe that with the NOPD strictly enforcing the strictness of these bars it can reduce this problem of underage drinking to a minimum. Please understand where I am coming from and put this in your consideration and make New Orleans a better place and enforce these laws strictly. Thank you for your time.
A concerned Resident,
Janet Le
John J. Manfreda
8549 United Plaza Boulevard, Suite 220
Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70809

Dear Mr. John J. Manfreda,
I am Janet Le, and I am a student at Xavier University. I am currently enrolled in a Theology course. Being in this class, one of our assignments is to list the three biggest problems in the world and choose one to try and make an improvement on that problem. This week we are required to send letters out to those who we believe can help us make a difference and I chose you as one of the people that can make a difference to the problem I have chosen. The one thing that I thought that need to be fixed is underage drinking. I am here to address that we need to make it more difficult for minors to get a hold of alcohol. you can possibly help this by sending out secret shoppers to different vendors and see if they are checking ID’s strictly and make sure they are not selling alcohol to minors. Also, you can try and fight to increase the fine for selling alcohol to minors. Please do the right thing and help me fight this battle and reduce underage drinking. Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Janet Le
I chose these four people, president Barak Obama, congressman Joseph Cao, Mayor Ray Nagin, and Mr. Mr. John J. Manfreda from the Louisiana liquor control because I believe that these are the four people that can actually help me enforce this problem and make it more complicated for minors to get a hold of alcohol. By them having a harder time getting a hold of alcohol it will definitely make this problem better. I am hoping that these people will get together and work together to help me fight this issue of underage drinking.
How is the idea of “Promised Land” problematic? This idea was problematic because it took the Israelites too long to reach the promise land and it had created many disbelief among the Israelites.
