Week 14: Grade

I believe that the end of the world cannot be determined, but there are many people who do. Many people including Christians believe that the world is going to end in their lifetime. I believe that only God knows when the world is going to end and no one else. I really think that those who try to determine when the world will end are very ignorant. In the past, there were many instances when the world was “supposedly” going to end. For example, in the year 2000 people thought the world was going to end so they began to prepare for it, but it never happened. This was not the only instance in which this happened; there where many others. It is a big cycle that keeps repeating. For example, after the year 2000 people thought the world was going to end in 2001, because there was no year 0, the real millennium will not begin until Jan 1, 2001. Now people are predicting the world is going to end in 2012, because the Mayan and Aztec calendars predict the end of the world will occur on December 21, 2012.  People also try to predict the end of the world, because of the signs that have occurred that are predicted in Revelation, such as famine, earthquakes, hurricanes, and war Although these may actually be signs, the end of the world still cannot be predicted. Some people even believe that the President Obama might be the Anti-Christ and that he is going to take over the world by running the government and the economy. People keep can and will keep trying to predict the end of the world and they most likely they will end being wrong, because they do not understand that it cannot be predicted. Only God knows when the world is going. Instead of wasting. That is why we should always be prepared, because when Judgment day comes, we will be ready.
Dr. Homan, I honestly feel that I should receive an A in this class. Your criteria for an A is: “Nearly everyone in the class would agree that your project considerably improved the world. Well written blog entries documented the extensive work that went into this project. Writing continuously demonstrated a firm understanding of the readings, lectures, and discussion topics. Writing showed the student’s ability to think critically and to clearly communicate. Blogged more than the required 1000 words every week. Project and writing fully exemplified Xavier’s mission.” I believe that I have met this criteria. I am pretty sure everyone in the class would agree that my project improved the world. I feel that my blogs were well written and they definetely show the amount of work I put into my project. I also feel that my writing demonstrates my knowledge and understandings of the readings, lectures, and discussion tops. My writing also showed that I am able to think critically and to apply what I have learned in class. I blogged over the 1000 word minimum for each weekly blog. Even though I procrastinated on the blogs, I still feel I deserve an A because I still got all of the work done and I put forth a lot of effort on both the blogs and my project. I was having trouble managing my time this semester because I spent most of this semester at the hospital visiting my grandma who was very sick. Sometime in late January, the doctor told us that she only has about a month or so left to live. Once I heard the news, I began to go to the hospital almost every day of the week to go visit her. I would spend hours there and some days I would even stay past midnight. I did this until the day she passed away, which was on March 10, 2009. She lived a lot longer than expected, because she was a strong woman and she never gave up. I loved my grandma so much. She was the one who practically raised me. It is hard to lose someone close to you, especially when you go home each day and they are not there anymore. There was also a close family friend that recently passed away on April 16, 2009. I knew him since I was born. He was like family to me. I am honestly going to say that this semester was probably my toughest semester yet and I still pulled through. Even after everything that has happened, in the end, I still got the blog done. Not only was I successful in completing the blog, but I was also successful in the implementation of my project. I was able to collect over 200 cans and I volunteered twice at a food bank. I feel that both my writing and my project has exemplefied Xavier’s mission, which is to “contribute to the promotion of a more just and humane society by preparing its students to assume roles of leadership and service in a global society.” I feel that I assumed the roles of leadership and service by gathering my friends and some people from Church to go and volunteer at food bank.  I truly believe that I put as much effort as I could in this class, taking into account what I went through this semester. Dr. Homan, I hope that you understand the circumstances of my situation and I hope that you give me the grade I deserve.
