Andrew - I’m glad that you and I are tackling a similar problem and hopefully through both of our hard efforts we can accomplish great things. Thank you very much for the suggestions about getting the word out. You are right that I have not had time to make a video. I’m swamped in school so I’m glad you gave me some other less time consuming options. It is greatly appreciated.

Missnay1 — Thank you so much for your enthusiasm with the organization that I wanted to work with. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to do any events because they don’t have anything local right now. Hopefully with more interest from people like you and I down here they will expand and grow into our territory. Then it will be much easier to make a difference with such a great organization!

Jennifer — Thanks so much for taking the time to read about my project. I’m glad that you learned something about such a great organization. Hopefully I will be able to work with them in the future, it just doesn’t seem to be happening right now.

Demetria — I think the idea of the Heifer organization extends to more of a world implementation rather than just doing something in New Orleans. I’m glad that you are doing a project on something similar to mine. The more people working to improve this problem in the world, the greater the chances of success.

Katey — Thank you so much for your thoughtful response to my project. I’m glad that you too are working with the problem of world hunger because I really feel like the more people working to do this, the better the chances we all have in really making an impact and changing this problem.

Joannie — Thanks for your enthusiastic and chipper support of my project. I’m glad you think it is a great idea. Unfortunately as the semester has slowly slipped by I have not had time to make a video but hopefully I have at least gotten people thinking about the idea of nutrition! Maybe I will have time in the future to promote this more.

Textual criticism is examining the bible on the basis of what did the original text actually say. This encompasses the idea of the shorter verse is the right verse and the idea that the more difficult verse is the right verse. Textual criticism searches for the correct translation from the original text. This is also called a “lower” criticism

Source criticism is a higher criticism. Source criticism tries to find out and look at what sources actually wrote what part of the bible. So the main difference between source and textual criticism is that source actually wants to figure who wrote the bible and textual criticism wants to figure out what that original source actually said. Both are useful tools in looking at different parts of the Bible.

Tobit was a man in Nenivah that was trying not to assimilate in the Assyrian capital so he strictly kept the dietary laws and life laws of his people. The king of the time was having a bunch of people killed and not burying. Tobit took it upon himself to dig graves for all these dead people (as proper to his own people’s laws) against the king’s orders. He had a son named Tobias. One day while sneaking out to dig graves he falls asleep. Unfortunately, a bird poops on his eye and he goes blind. As time goes on he wants to kill himself and not live with this blindness any longer. Some guy in another city (Media) owes Tobit money so he orders his son Tobias to go get it. In Media (further from Nenivah), there is a girl named Sarah that has been married 7 times, and each of her husbands die on their wedding night because a demon comes and kills them. She too finds her life too miserable and wants to die. Tobias along with his father go on a journey to get the money and Raphael (the angel) disguises himself and journeys along with them. They come to the Tigris river and Tobias takes a bath in the river and is almost eaten by a fish. The angel orders the fish to be caught and eaten and to save the heart, liver, and gall bladder. They continued marching towards Media and Tobias falls in love with Sarah and wants to get married. Come to find out the burning smoke of the fish parts will rid them of the demon and the gall bladder will cure Tobit of his blindness. So after the journey the gall bladder was rubbed on Tobit’s eyes and he was cured of blindness. Sarah and Tobias got married and burned the fish parts on their wedding night and the demon. This was a story used to prove that there were angels and things back in the day and that even when you want to die god will send an angel down to save you.

Maccabees was thought to be heroic because of all that was done and established under his rule. Judas Maccabees was son of Mattathias. Mattathias and his people hated Hellenism as it was trying to be enforced on us by the Seleucid ruler, Antiochs IV. Mattathis eventually had Antiochus killed on an altar. Mattathias knew that Antiochus’s people would want him killed after doing what he did so him and his people fled to the hills. Eventually they began forming an army and on his deathbed Judas was given control. Judas Maccabees (so called because his name means “hammer” as represented by how he hammered through with his army) led his troops and won many battles. The temple was retaken by Maccabees in Jerusalem and was repurified in 165 BCE. After the repurification there was a celebration for eight days. This originated Hannukah. This might be heroic for many because it rededicated the temple after it has been descrated by antiochus therefore renewing the Jewish faith and covenant. Also, for people today Hannukah is a big event and it was the result of Judas Maccabees that all of this had gotten started.
