Week 14: Grades Almost Over Yay!!!!!!!

Why do most Christians in history believe that the world will end in their lifetimes?
I remember in 1999 when the rumor was out that when the clocks hit twelve on January 1, 2000 all the computers were going to stop and that the world was going to go into a period of extreme chaos. This is kind of funny because everybody was buying a bunch of canned foods and bottle water in preparation for the end of the world. We were so scared. People went to church because they wanted to be close to God and worshipping when the end came so that they would not go to hell. How incredibly stupid and gullible we were. When the clock struck twelve it just kept on going. Nothing major happened. We went on with our lives like we had never assumed that our world was over as we know it. We will continue to live like this until another big rumor comes out and then we will come into panic mode all over again. It is like we find on little thing wrong and oh my God the end of times is here. It is like a slippery slope fallacy. We start off at one point and we just keep on sliding down the slope, society deteriorating, until we reach the very bottom. We make things up a lot. Think about the book series Left Behind. It was this whole big rave and movement. I can imagine people saying, “Oh my God, have you read the Left Behind books. I can totally see those events happening now. The world is about to end, you better get ready.”People just find anything to talk about. I think that if people would live right through out their whole lives they would not have to worry about the world ending. People did not worry about that until modern times. It is like they want to know when it will end so that they will not be left behind. They want a warning so that they can have time to live right and get their acts together before the Lord comes again. That is sad but it is the truth. We do not live right our whole lives but we want a little warning before the world is supposed to end so that we can repent and be taken into heaven. I think the idea that most Christians believing that the world will end during their lifetime is to be blamed on churches and the book of Revelations. It also has a lot to do with the media and their need to invoke fear in our society. First off, the preachers and priests and rabbis in our churches are to blamed for this belief. They are always talking about how you need to shape up or get your act together because if you do not, you will be left here during the Rapture. They always talk about how you need to repent and pray so that the Savior will take you with him when he comes again. They invoke this kind of fear in you to make sure you do right so that you can be righteous and holy when and if the Lord comes during your time. They preach sermons like “ I have my ticket, do you have yours,” when in actuality it is not guaranteed that you will go to heaven being a preacher or not. Also the book of Revelations gives a whole list of tell tale signs that will show when the Lord is coming again. And it is like we see them in our world all the time like to Mark of the beast and all to that kind of stuff. I think that the media helps with this idea as well. They try to connect every thing that is done to something bad. They are in the business of evoking fear in our world so that we will continue to follow them and do what they say this is why they have to have us thinking that the end of the world is near. I think that all of this is a lot of speculation and guessing. No one knows when the end of the world will come or even if there will be an end of the world. I think that we should just try to do the right thing, live right and enjoy our time on Earth while we have it because life is already too short.
We did not watch the movies so there is no way that I can comment on it. Sorry.
Blog you thoughts on what your overall grade for your blog entries and your project should be and why.
First off, I will say that these blogs are very tedious but they do require you to think and go outside the box. Sometimes it was kind of hard to try to find a way to get 1000 words out of the topics that we were given but I made a way. Sorry if you do see a lot of rambling on about something totally random. I probably had no idea what to say so I said anything.
Secondly, I do not think that these blogs would have been as bad if I had taken the time to keep up with them. I tried to at first and then I just started falling farther and farther behind until it was the week before they were due and I had to do about eight of them. It would not have been so bad to keep up with them but it was like I always had an excuse why I could not when in all actuality I wasted a lot of time this semester. I guess you live and you learn. I wish I had kept up but I did not so now I am spending my whole weekend writing a ninth of a book as me and my friend Ashley calculated. My advice to anyone who takes this class is please do not wait until the last minute for things. If you do you will drive yourself crazy trying to catch up. Please keep up with the blogs.
Finally, I will discuss my grade. Of course I am going to say that I deserve an A, I think that everyone does. Even though I might not have kept up with the blogs I did blog at least 1000 words for each blog and I did elaborate and answer the questions. I think that even though I did ramble a bit my blogs are very well written and give a very good image of Xavier. For the most part, I think that I have very few grammatical errors. I think it represents my ability to communicate and they show that I do fully grasp and understand the things taught to us during this class. I think that my project did impact the world of the girls that I taught and maybe even the world of the people around them. I feel like I might have been able to reach a lot more people possibly with a website but oh well. I think that my project has a good scope and it is a very important issue in our society. As I said before I think that I should get an A on my blogs.

I agree you have fewer grammatical errors than most. I might even go so far as to say you could be a very gifted writer if you so choose. Also, a special thanks for being the only student who I could depend on to do the readings.
