Why do most Christians in history believe the world will end in their lifetimes?
I personally do not know the reason why people have accumulated these beliefs over the years. I would say that it has to do with your religion and what you were taught about the Christian religion. Some people refer to the book of Revelation and incorporate things that occur in everyday life to what is stated in the bible. The book of Revelation is said to “reveal” the world as it comes to an end and some people believe that we are already living through some of the things that are mentioned therein. I have read the book of Revelation and I must say that a lot of the things that are mentioned there are realistic and things that we see every day in life but it does not necessarily make me think that the world is presently about to come to an end.
There have been many failed attempts of predicting when the world will end. In addition to the prediction that the world would end in the year of 2000, new predictions have been made that insist that the world will end in the year of 2012. This new beliefs stem from the ancient Mayan calendar which is supposedly more accurate than the one that is used to date. By using the calendar from this group of people, it is thought that the world will end on December 21,2012 at 11:11 am. Being that I am a believer in God and Jesus Christ, I am aware that it is stated in the Bible that only God knows when the world will end, so how can people believe the Mayans? As far as I know, my world as I know it here on Earth will come to an end without a doubt, but that will not result in the end of the entire world.
Many Christians in history anticipate the end of the world to be marked by the return of Jesus Christ of Earth. They believe that this return is on its way because of the events in the Bible that are said to be events will lead to the end of the world. Events such as famine, natural disasters and war have been occurring over the years in our lives and that may have a lot to do with the reason why people think this way. But of course no one, but God, knows for sure when this will take place and I do not believe that there is even a sure date due to the following passage.“No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.” “Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left. Two women will be grinding with the hand mill; one will be taken and the other left.” “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.” (Matthew 24:36, 40 & 42). To me, this passage is proof enough that no matter how much people speculate about the return of Christ and about when the world will come to an end, no one knows for sure and no one will know until it happens.
Unfortunately, we did not get a chance to watch the Bible movie in class this semester. I think that if we were afforded this opportunity, we would have a better understanding of this topic and would be able to give better and more detailed blogs regarding it.
I think that my overall grade for my blog entries and my project should be a ‘B’. I think I deserve a B because I know that I have put hard work and effort into these blogs and have thought critically about all of the questions that were asked throughout the blogs. I have also put great time and effort into implementing my project and I am assured that my project has impacted the lives of the ones I have come in contact with and in turn I am sure that they will to be able to impact the lives of someone else with their stories.
