Big Problems

Three important problems that I think is facing the world today are pollution, obesity and healthcare. The first problem I would like to address is obesity in America. More and more people each day are gaining weight and are doing little to nothing about it, myself included. Each day we constantly stuff ourselves with food not just to fulfill the hunger but for cravings, depression, or for just no good reason but to have something to eat. Around us, we see advertisement and commercials on what we can do to lose weight, but once again many people do nothing about it. The few that do like to choose to either exercise, take dietary supplements or sign up for food service that delivers food to their house daily that claims to help lose weight.
Some Americans are obese because of their busy schedule so instead of cooking a home meal, instead go out and get fast food which has more calories and sugar. With the vast amount of fast food chains available and with the decline in the economy it is cheaper to go out and buy fast food rather than going to the store to buy groceries and then having to go home and cook it. Americans are also spending more time indoors to save on gas which also leads to a rise in obesity. So instead of being outdoors hiking or at the park running, many people are just at home on the couch on the internet, watching T.V. or just at home playing board games with their family.
Pollution is another problem I believe is affecting the world. The world is becoming more and more polluted each day by chemical substances such as nitrous oxides and gas emission that gets into the air. As these chemicals are floating around in the air, it becomes harmful for the ozone layer and the quality of air that we breathe. As Americans, we are very depended on fossil fuels for our daily transportation. We can diminish the amount of fossil fuels used by doing as little as car pooling with friends, walking, or riding bikes to get around. Another type of pollution is water pollution. Our water is being polluted by harmful substances each day and by people littering into the water. Substance from sewage and fertilizer that contains harmful chemicals also gets into the water and affects its quality. These chemical harms the aquatic life in the water and may harm the way they eat, breath, reproduce and their quality of life. Along with the air and water, pollution also affects land. With the population vastly increasing each day, people are littering and the amount of trash is building up and being dump into landfills. The things is, some of the trash that are being buried do not decompose and will just remain in its current condition buried under ground or produce chemicals that are hazardous. These landfills are harmful to the environment and the people that live nearby due to chemicals that can be washed into nearby streams and rivers.
Another problem would be universal health care. But in my opinion the bill that President Barack Obama is currently discussing to provide universal healthcare for everyone will do more harm than good to the society. If everyone had healthcare given to them by the government, it will be the government who will choose which doctor the patients may and may not go to. It will take patients a longer period of time to see the doctor therefore those who truly in need of medical help will also have to wait in line like everyone else to see a physicians. The healthcare will come from taxpayers who along with their own healthcare have to pay for others too. Doctors and Pharmacist will get paid less and it may affect the amount of aspiring students who may want to enter the medical field but would not be able to pay for the cost of school. I do believe that healthcare is a problem in the world and that everyone deserves a right to have healthcare. I also believe that if there was universal healthcare many people will abuse it and rely too heavily on the government. For example, after Hurricane Katrina the government provided housing and money to those who had no place to live. Today, those individuals are still living off of the government money without a job and spend their day sitting around their house. I believe that the same will happen if there is universal healthcare. Since access to health care will be free, there will be no reason for them to have a job since housing and food is provide for through food stamp. It will cause a more drastic change in the economy.
I believe that I can devise a plan to help pollution. I would like to start with recycling. More and more trash is accumulating each day and instead of it being recycling, it is just thrown away and transferred to a landfill. If everyone recycled, it would be more beneficial for the environment by helping trees, animals, and even the air. I believed that I could implement a plan to help pollution because before Katrina there were recycling facilities trucks that came to individual house or center to pick up recyclable each week. After Katrina, the city of New Orleans doesn’t provide that service. I believe that if it was available more people would recycle.
Yes, I understand this course plagiarism policy. There is no such thing as “The Bible” because there is no one bible. There are different types of bible that is translated into different languages and contains different books in each depending on who will be using it. The Hebrew Bible used by the Jewish first of all consists of 39 books organized into three sections. The Protestant Christian Bible includes the 39 books along with 27 books of the New Testament. The bible used by Catholics and Eastern Orthodox on the other hand, includes the Hebrew Bible and the New Testament along with the Apocrypha. Therefore, there is no such thing as “The Bible.”
