Project Summary

53 words by aspurloc

My project is targeted to the health care crisis, primarily oral health care. I want to implement a school- based sealant program in a nearby school district. It basically is helping to put sealants on children’s teeth to prevent tooth decay. This program is government funded, but it is not really in effect.

I think it is a great project and related to your chosen profession. The first step will be to team up with a group already trying to do this. In the news recently a group of dentists were giving free dental care to local school children. Start by contacting the City Hall Department of Health, or the state.

That is wonderful Amber, and you are right everyone doesn’t focus on the dental issues of our kids and even ourselves. Many of the kids have cavities and plaque build-up, so this would be very useful.

I think your project seems to be very well planned as well as thought out. It really seems that you have a passion for the project and a strategic outline on how to go about enacting as well as accomplishing it. I think it is great how you have already talked to the advisor of the pre-dental club in helping to assist you. Your plan to continue this project as an annual project for the club is very good and it is also very effective. It helps to ensure that your project has a lasting impact for members of the community.

I think that this is a great project because physical health is such a key factor to success in society, and it also boosts self-confidence for young people to succeed in the future. Putting sealants on young children’s teeth is vital because it can svae so much money in the future by preventing cavaties and fillings. I think that you should write a letter to the state senator to ask about what is holding this project up, and I think that when it is finally begun, it should begin at schools with parents of lower income.

Just as Dr. Homan said, I like the fact that your project is related to the profession you are working towards. It is a major task, but I know you are motivated and you will overcome any challenges to get the job done. In the end, it will pay off to know you’re helping a major number of children get dental work that will preserve their teeth for years to come.

This is a great idea! I love the fact that you are doing something that are related to your goal in life. Most people don’t know that the health of your teeth and gums affect your overall health. Maybe after you find out how to start this project, you can update us on the project.

Well, this is a great idea, so we should work out all the details to this. You can expand and explain it a little bit more about how you’re going to get this project going. You mentioned that this program is government funded, but of course, with government funding there are many issues. I don’t think the problem would be getting a government agency to fund this program, but where are you going to find dentists who are willing to dedicate their day of work to doing this charity event. Maybe one or two dentist would, but this would probably be a waste of the funding if we can’t get a lot of dentists to join in the cause. Great idea, so lets work out some of the details and let us know how we can help you!

I like your project because I believe that oral health care is very essential to overall health. You could perhaps talk to people throughout different communities to start a petition to help the program come into effect. It should be fairly easy to get people to sign the petition since it is regarding their own children health and it is also a plus that it would be government funded. You could also contact the (ASTDD) The Association of State and Territorial Directors to help bring the School-Based Dental Program into more elementary and middle school programs in New Orleans.

I think that this a great idea, especially since some families may not have the means the provide that type of preventative care for their children. Another aspect that you can add to the program is an educational factor. You could teach the children about the proper way to protect their teeth and it doesn’t have to be strictly formal, you could even cover a small segment on grills and what they do to your teeth since I’m sure they see rappers wearing them all the time. Or, you could just send home a little informational packet about good oral hygiene, either way I think it is a good project.

I think this is a great idea. Many families do not have means to provide dental care and protections for their children and this is a great way to provide them with it. It is a great idea because many kids do not care for their teeth as well as they should. It would be great also to inform the children about dental care and how to take the proper steps to care for their teeth. Without the essential information about how to protect their teeth, many kids will have to suffer the pain and agony as their teeth begin to decay and their family will have to pay a lot of money to help fix the problem.

I love this idea for your project. It is diferent and will definitely help alot of disadvantage kids, or families that just simply cannot afford dental care. You may also want to include a brief brochure about small everyday things they can do to protect their teeth.

You have a really unique program. I did not even know what a sealant was until I looked it up after reading your project. Many children do not get oral health care or any health care at all for that matter. I really do not know who would be able to help you but the Daughters of Charity may be able to direct you to a program. They do service dental concerns but because they work to provide low income individuals with health care they may have referrals. Also Ochsner may have a program too.
