My Project

In my previous blog the three problems in the world I talked about were poverty, global warming, and the health care issue. I know that two out of these three issues are something that I can try to improve but the one I chose was global warming. I think that if we had the knowledge about what we as people are doing to case harm to the earth maybe it would open the eyes of the people. Also, I noticed around campus and tons of other places there is no real place to recycle all the paper or plastic that people use. I think I saw one recycle bin through out the entire campus. People don’t normally do things that inconvenience them. So I thought that a good project would be to do two things. I think it’s a good idea to inform people about ways they can help, but instead of wasting paper, I think that for one week e-mails could be sent out to the entire Xavier body about the small things they can do to help. It would hold maybe two to three things, so it wont take any time at all for people to read. The next thing I think I could do is find a way to increase the number of recycling bins around the school. Especially in high traffic areas, computer labs, the library, the UC. Even if three more bins get added it could still make a difference.

I agree that making people knowledgeable about global warming would definately make a difference! Global warming is a topic that almost everyone is used to hearing but not everyone understands it’s significance. I must say that i have seen quite a few recycling bins for paper on campus mainly in the NCF and a few in the library (where, in my opinion, there should be more). There’s even a huge dumpster for recycling in the back of the library by the faculty parking. But, as you mentioned, not too many people may have noticed. I totally agree about the plastic recycling because not only does it harm the environment, it can be melted down and used for so many other things. I saved two large garbage bags full of plastic bottles with the intentions of recycling and can’t find anywhere to take them. I googled a place in Metairie, but when I went there they told me they only recycled metal! So your plan to increase the number of recycling bins and to make MORE people aware of global warming and it’s threats is an awesome idea!

I think that helping to bring awareness to global warming is a good idea. There was a group recently one campus that was getting students to sign a petition to increase the use of solar and wind energy. They were also looking for people to volunteer with them. So maybe starting a group on campus that will help with environmental groups around the city would be a good idea.

Your right, this would be a great idea. It would make our world a better society. We would come together to work as a whole and as a helping hand to each other. We need to save our planet, because it is slowly fading away by some of the things we do or others may do that we are not aware of.

I think your project is a really good idea. Global warming is a serious issue that is impacting the world today. I totally agree with you on the fact the people are unaware of the damage that they are inflicting upon the environment. As a result, pollution is major problem contributing to global warming. I think that your idea of sending mass e-mails containing tips to everyone at Xavier is an innovative idea because it’s technological and doesn’t waste any paper. You should start by contacting the proper authorities involved with sending e-mails at Xavier to make sure that it can be done. Also, the idea of increasing the number of recycling bins at different locations throughout Xavier is imperative to your cause of alleviating global warming and is greatly needed for the university as well.

I think global warming is a very important issue that very little people know or care about. Everyone just complain about the weather being too hot or being so uncommon, but what they don’t know is that global warming is causing the majority of it. The e-mail idea that you have is very good. I think it is a great way to pass the word around. Almost everyone attending the school checks their email 7-10 times if not more daily. The addition of additional recycle bins around school is also a great idea. I’ve noticed that barely anyone uses the boxes. I think is they were placed in study rooms, class rooms, and even outside near the trash cans, more people would recycle the material. I have also noticed that the the recycle bins, well at least the ones that I have seen around school, are only for paper. There is no recycling bin for plastic or aluminum. I think the addition of those type of recycling bins will also help the environment greatly.

This is a great idea and I am also working on recycling for my project. You are absolutely right about the scarcity of recycling bins on campus, so we should definitely increase this number. I think that one way of doing this is to place recycling bins for both paper and plastic next to trashcans in all buildings. The main trashcans can be targeted, such as entrances and exits. I think we would be surprised at how quickly the recycling bins fill.

I am also working on a plan to encourage more people to recycle. We should could work together to have more recycling center placed around campus and perhaps even around greater New Orleans.

I think that this is a great idea! I believe that the edauction aspect will be very effective because although people talk a lot about recycling, no one ever really names the specific things that are caused when we don’t. So maybe if people know the exact amount of damage that this can cause, they may choose to do otherwise. Another thing you could do is partner up with some of the other individuals in the class that are focusing on recycling and you guys can implement you project to together.
