The alphabet democratized civilization by making the processes of reading and writing easier as well as more efficient to learn. Since reading and writing became easier to learn, it was no longer limited to those members of society who held a high status or ranking. Everyone was able to read and write and as a result, formulate and share ideas (Shanks, 1992). Along with the alphabet and its part in democratizing civilization, archaeology is also important. Archaeology is the study of human artifacts that are left behind by a previous civilization (“Archaeology & the Bible”, 2005). Archaeology has helped Bible scholars by allowing Bible scholars to get a visual representation of the surroundings and everyday objects that are depicted in the Bible.
