In the previous week blog I had chosen three problems that I believe is a problem in the world, obesity, pollution, and health care. I have chosen to focus on pollution because I believe I can do something about it. Pollution is a major problem because every day the population is growing and more trash is accumulating but not many people are recycling. Recycling is good for the environment because it allows us to reuse materials that would otherwise be thrown into a landfill. Currently, the city of New Orleans offer no free recycling services. They do however have a private service called Phoenix Recycling that charge monthly for pick up. If there were more recycling services at no charge, people would probably want to recycle. Therefore, I would like to implement a plan to have more recycling centers to encourage people to recycle. I would like to start by working with my peers to have more recycling bins placed around Xavier’s campus so it would be almost effortless to recycle so students wouldn’t have to go out of their way to throw their plastics and paper to recycle. I would also like to get into contact with the Lousiana Bucket Brigade or the DEQ to see if they could help me implement a plan to offer a free service that will pick up household recyclables on designated days free of charge.

True, pollution is a major problem in our comminities. While there is not enough done by the government and the corporations to reduce pollution, we can all contribute to the reduction of air-pollution and quality.
I watch how people throw trash out their cars. Some people pollute the rivers and lake with garbage. people even incenerate trash in their yard. In some states, you can’t drive an automobile that’s smoking; you can receive a fine.
But yes, you’re rihgt; recycling would be a great way to reduce pollution. Bfore hurricane Katrina, New Orleans residents had recycling bins that would be emptied on designated days,

I think that this is a good idea that would have a positive effect on the city of New Orleans. It might also help if you teamed up with other individuals that have the same interest as you so that you guys can have a greater impact… I also agree the obesity is a major problem in society, especially among minorties and in children.

I honestly think that obeisity is only an American issue, and not so much a world issue. However, I like your plan. LA Bucket Brigade would be more than hapy to help you and you can also check with GWHIZZ here on campus and see what they can offer you.
