My Project
253 words by Shay
As I mentioned in the previous blog the tree biggest problems that permeate our world today is media’s influence on public opinion, prejudices and over-priced goods. Throughout the semester I will work on the over-priced goods problem because I can have the greater impact on it than the other two. My project calls for the spread of general information on a mass scale. I will inform Xavier’s faculty, staff and students, as well as my coworkers and family about which goods that are overpriced, when the best time to buy certain goods and where to purchase those select goods. Many corporations increase the price of popular goods and goods that are out of season because of basic supply and demand, but if you how to find bargains then the money you save can be used to treat yourself or others to a night on the town or a present. Since we are in a recession, saving money is crucial to keeping a balanced budget and college students are the worst at overspending so they are my main target. I will use tools such as emails, flyers and facebook to do my project and some hands-on workshops may follow.

Yes, you’re right Shavonda, the media has a big influence on public opinion. If the media reports a story in a negative way, that’s usually how the pblic views it.
for instance, Michelle is not your typical First Lady. And we knew that from the start. She had her mom living in the house to help with the children. She likes to garden and do things that can cause her to get dirty. However, when she wore the shorts, which did not seem inappropriate, the media made a big deal out of it. So other people did also.
About informing people about the over-priced food and where to purchase the bargains. I think that’s a great idea we’ll all apreciate.

I absolutely agree. Almost everything on the market today is overpriced. I think that educating people about supply and demand may help them better understand how the marketplace works. It may also them become wiser on where and how they spead their money. Also, tips on where to find bargains are a good idea too.

I also agree that the majority of the items at markets are overpriced. It is a very big problem because many people are not even able to afford the essentials because the price is so high. It is very important to inform others about how to buy certain things at lower prices and when it is best to buy certain things. I think this project will help a lot of people especially college students who are always on a budget. You approach to the project is, in my opinion, great. I think the use of facebook and workshops will help greatly since almost everyone has a facebook and checks it the same amount of time if not more than their own emails.

I like the fact that you branched out from the rest of the class with your issues and it is still issues that the class can relate to. You hit the mark by reaching out to college students becasue I can definitely relate to overspending whether it is on lunch or going out. When I stayed on campus is when I realized it hit me harder. So maybe you can specifically reach out to on campus residents.

Shay I think this is a good project. You may even be able to get together with the Division of Business and get some ideas from some of the faculty on what the best route to take on your program would be. As you have said everyone should be concerned with saving money since our economy is so unpredictable at times. Being an RA in the residence halls I know that if you display this information in the halls that it would garner attention. A great number of students are concentrated there and constantly read the billboards. If you decide to post fliers there you have to get it stamped.
