Abramson Science and Technology Charter School has designed an organization for young women grades 6-8 called Ladies of Distinction. The organization aims to foster the development of young adolescent girls. Specifically, the organization’s mission is to promote positive self-image, academic achievement, civic responsibility, and healthy lifestyle among young teen girls at Abramson. One of the many ways in which the coordinator of L.O.D. intends to incite the aforementioned development is by reaching out to women currently enrolled in institutions of higher education. In this way, the young women at Abramson can uphold higher education as a realistic end to their current academic obligations. The young women of L.O.D. will benefit greatly from interacting with women of the community who have obtained high school diplomas and are choosing to further their education. Additionally, it is our belief that each Xavier “ Big Sister” can form substantial relationships with their “Little Sisters” so as to mentor them in the areas of: healthy decisions, self –image, community service, and academic success. Mentors are required to attend a minimum of 2 meetings a month to either co-facilitate the planned activity, or lead their own activity related to the mission of the program. Participant demographics: 17 girls ranging from 6 through 8th grade. Meetings: Members meet Tuesday and Thursday from 4pm to 6pm. Selection Process: The members of L.O.D. were nominated by homeroom teachers who have observed a need for the member’s growth in one or more of the following: overall attitude, leadership, work ethic, or class participation.  Requirements of members: Maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average, show gradual improvement in the aforementioned categories, parent permission, demonstration of commitment and interest in being a L.O.D. Sample Activities (supervised and facilitated by coordinator): The movement’s origins were in the former northern Kingdom of Israel where anti-king and anti-city feelings as well as social justice issues, had been especially strong. These concerns were expressed by the eighth century B.C.E. prophets Amos and Hosea in the north, and Isaiah and Micah in the south. When the Kingdom of Israel was overrun by the Assyrians, the Deuteronomistic Historians fled south. For nearly a century, they re-worked their theology from Judah. this period the prophet Jeremiah emerged. He continued to be a public figure until after the final fall of Jerusalem. He was very concerned for the “poor of the land.” His work emphasized social justice and religious reform. Jeremiah was important in Deuteronomistic circles. His prophetic work contains many of the movement’s ideas. Jeremiah’s deuteronomic themes include denunciation of Judah’s unfaithfulness and idolatry, his prophecy of deserved punishment, his emphasis on the covenant and interpretation of history as divinely guided. Following the fall of Jerusalem, these historians edited his work.  During the Exile its members continued to work by writing the history of the Hebrew people. The historians would probably not approve of George W. Bush because the historians were concerned with the poor people and the freedom of the land, that was not the main focus of their ideology. George W. Bush is closely related to the Assyrian king at the time because “war and famine was one of the major concerns between the both of them, then and now. Also, another issue was social justice and religious reform. In my opinion, the ideas that the historians had were from a democratic standpoint and being that Bush was a republican the two conflicting ideas would have not worked in the first place. The worse thing David did was when he ordered to have one of his own soldiers killed just so he could wed the soldier’s wife. This occurs after David becomes the Hebrew King. One day, King David takes a stroll and lays his eyes on a beautiful lady by the name of Bathsheba, who was the wife of Urias, a soldier at war. After laying his eyes on Bathsheba, King David felt the need to have her, so he orders his military commander to place Urias on the front line in order for him to be killed, so that he could have Bathsheba. As he command, the military commander puts Urias on the front line at war and Urias is killed. As a result, King David weds Bathsheba and she gives birth to his son. However, because of the sin that King David committed, but was unaware of, his son dies after seven days. The first was erected in 10th century BCE by King Solomon, on the place where his father,  David shall have made repentance after trying to count the people of Israel, an act God punished with a plague. David’s choice of place was connected to the belief that the rock here is the centre of the world. This temple was built entirely according to patterns from Egyptian temples, and was divided into four zones, all lying on the same axis, all zones had more or less the same width and only the length varied. Outside the building, and under open sky, was the altar for fire sacrifices. After stepping up the stairs, one entered the entrance hall. From this, one entered the holy area, where the shewbread was. From this, some stairs lead to the holiest holy area, where the Ark was, the Ark containing the Ten Commandments. The whole structure is believed to have been 70 metres long, and the width about 30 metres. The temple, the first, was destroyed in 587 BCE by the Babylonians. The temple was rebuilt, starting in 20 BCE. This construction was somewhat larger and it was called the Temple of Herod. The whole structure of this temple was destroyed by the Romans in 70 CE. The only part that survived was the Western Wall (which still stands, and which is often called the Wailing Wall), but this was not part of the temple itself, but a part of the surrounding walls. On the place where one believes that the temple is. The temple of Jerusalem was the all- absorbing religious centre in Israeli religion. For Judaism it has become the central focal point a symbol of unity and the hope for justice in the future.
