Dr. Homan-Thanks, Dr. Homan for sparking the idea of l us teaming up to accomplish our projects. I have never volunteered in a soup kitchen so I also think it will be quite an experience.
jbrown11- Thanks, Julianne, I value second opinions.
tbailey- I’m glad you want to help Taylor. If you still want to help, me and Kiara Maddox are teaming up and you are more than welcomed to join the bandwagon. I agree as well that volunteering at a soup kitchen is a gesture that makes us look deep within ourselves and makes us realize how fortunate we really are with just the plain everyday necessities.
lizztran- Thank you Lizz for your comment. I piggy back on what you said exactly. I was thinking I could volunteer at the soup kitchen but then donate food to people that do have homes, but may not be able to afford food for their home.
kallison- Thanks, Kelly. You are the first person to comment on my recycling idea. Great ideas.
Quang Vu- Thanks Quang for addressing both of my ideas. I actually chose to go ahead with tackling hunger and I teamed up with Kiara.
kiaramaddox- I love your ideas, Kiara, I am actually in GWHIZZ and that would be awesome to involve another organization on campus, it would generate more publicity. But as you know I’m doing hunger, because we are now partners (lol).
terry pham- Thank you Terry. I did team up with someone though; it’s for hunger though, not recycling.
pnguyen8- Thanks Paulyna, you made an excellent point about the soup kitchen being only for one day. I value your comment. But I feel it more in my heart to help less fortunate people that are hungry.
pcarter- Thanks Princess for the suggestions, I love the idea and will try to make it happen.
dle4- I like your standpoint about being interactive at the soup kitchen versus just collecting canned goods. Thanks Daniel!
Since I was having trouble getting my logo onto the blog, here is the description. My logo consists of a “no” symbol with the word “Hunger” behind it, and underneath it, it reads, “Eliminating Hunger One Mouth at a Time!”
I feel that the patriarchs in a way are good role models because they were always portrayed as taking care of their families and honoring God at the same time. Though I respect other culture’s practices, as an American woman I hate the practice of polygamy and don’t believe it was a good aspect of the patriarch Jacob. Just like the patriarchs, the matriarchs are good but can be considered bad role models, depending on how you look at it. They can be deemed as good role models because they too were loved their families and respected God. However, Rebekah aided her son, Jacob in deceiving her husband Isaac, which makes her not so good of a role model. And after Hagar bore Abraham a child, which Sarah insisted, she became jealous and exiled Hagar from the family. And also, Rachel deceived her father. So it depends on how you look at it and your views on the Bible whether you consider the patriarchs and matriarchs good role models. As for me, I’m on the fence, as you can see.
My favorite commandment from the Decalogue is number five, “Honor your father and your mother.” I like this commandment the most because out parents are our backbone and even they are not around to take care and provide for you, they still gave you life, which was an option. I believe it is our responsibility as sons and daughters to love parents unconditionally and to take care of them as much as we can now and especially once they become elderly.
The Decalogue fits into the context of ancient Near Eastern Suzerain-Vassal treaties because like the Ten Commandments, the Suzerain-Vassal treaties were an agreement between a king and vassal just like the Ten Commandments were laws that were sent from God through Moses that the people agreed to abide by. The ancient Near Eastern Suzerain-Vassal treaties were created to show the vassal what the Suzerain has done to for him and to illustrate that the vassal should show reverence and appreciation. Also, the Suzerain-Vassal treaties contained blessings and curses if the stipulations were met or not. Just like the Ten Commandments, if the people do not follow them, God has punishments, but if the people do follow the Commandments, then he will reward them.
