Ms. August Blog

My thoughts on the class so far are I’m starting to learn that writing is a skill that I’m starting to develop and like. I got this feeling last semester and I\’m feelinmg it even more this semester. Maybe it\’s a sign and maybe if I feel like this next semester I will be doing some research about majoring in English or something related. English never has been my favorite class in grammar school and never the less writing has been one of my skills. I always admire someone who is majoring in English because english is a hard subject that most people don\’t like and for someone to take upon that challenge is an amazing person. I understand now that writing is a beautiful thing because when you can’t express yourself with words they always seem to flow when writing. Then when you are writing you don\’t have to be afraid or to shy to express yourself to the fullest. It\’s just you and your notepad while your mind is doing the talking. I thing the blogs would be a little interesting. I also think the blogs could be a whole lot interesting if we could write what we wanted just as long as it comes up to 2000 words. The blogs would also be challenging and good for me. It would give me a chance to see if writing is something I truly love, something I truly love so much that I change my major to English. I’m an open person always willing to learn and try new things so the blogs are something new that I shall see how my experience go. I must admit this week has been absolutely boring, I have friends who are taking this course also and they hate going to class already. One of my friends describes his teacher as the man who is on the eye drop commercial saying “for dry eyes.” I think if the teachers should teach this class with some life in them and up to date they might just be some people who find out that Theology might be something they would like to major in or some people would want to take this class as an elective because they heard how interesting it was. My expectation for the class this far is not very high but two weeks from now that can all change. I’m willing to learn some things I didn’t know or fully understand to grasp so I can share with others and it might just change some lives. I was in catholic schools for most of life so this class can’t be all that new to me. I’ve been to three different catholic schools and they all taught religion the same way. If you can just read word for word in the bible that doesn’t excite me it’s impressing and wonderful that you can do that but you can’t reach out to all your listeners that way. When you can translate in away where an 8 to 80 year old can understand that attracts people and they begin to like to hear you speak even more. People have to realize today when you teach religion/theology this is a new and very different generation that you have to reach out to. I rather for someone to teach from experience when it comes to religion, because when you teach from experience you have a testimony that’s worth sharing with the rest of the world so that others that are going through the same thing can relate and have the ease up a little knowing that it want last forever and that they are not the only ones going throught something right now. Im not a bible scholar but I know the famous stories of the bible that everyone teaches and share. I also know some quotes. I have a lot of quotes that I like but one that I quote alot is I can do all things through christ that strenghtens me. I also have a real close relationship to God because I talk to him aloud as if I was talking to anyone else. I mean I asks him questions and I also asks for advice. I tells him thank you all the time, if its just for waking me up in the morning. I like to let him know that I\’m very grateful. Even when I\’m going through something that I just can\’t bear I talk it over with God first and then places it in his hands.

I took this course just like many others because it’s requiring for my major here at Xavier. From the stories I heard about this course I don\’t think if it wasn\’t require I would have taken this course. Then again I’m willing to give anything a chance at least once if you don’t and just go by what people say you want have given life its fair chance. Theology is really very interesting just to find out what went on before Christ and after is wonderful. All I ‘m saying just because we are talking about the Bible doesn’t mean we have to sound so dead. Liven up! My comments on the the course commitments is yes I can follow that because if i can commitment to my country I don\’t think Theology should be that much of a big deal. The commitments were pretty straight forward and should be, because we are not babies anymore. Some of us are straight out of high school that may have to adapt to becoming an adult and some are men and women of the united stated arm forces that have travel and experience life. Theology is not just going to be challenging for the blogs but also the work. I thought this class was going to be an easy \”A\” I guess I was wrong. Next semester when someone ask if I took Theology I can tell them if you would like to learn and do a lot of work then take Mr. Holland class. I would not leave out asking them if they like to write well try writing 2000 words every week about topics sometimes you can\’t even relate to.

I think Mr. Holland is a great and brillant man. He really impresses me just by being a bible scholar. It\’s amazing that he had to learn alot of different languages and know the bible the way he does. All I\’m saying is to have open selections about the bible and the topic readings sometimes. Like just walk in class not having a plan for that day and just let the class go from there. I think you would have a better discussion and more participants that\’s willing to engage in the conversation. Because than you would have people relating the news and just personal trials that they may experienced in their life. I\’m not saying change the way you teach totally but teach the bible in a way that my generation and the geneations to come can relate.
