the problem is too big to solve

1374 words by Sonia

Today is a very nice day, but I am tired. I have two options, either I can stay in school finish my work and enjoy the rest of the day or I can go home and go to bed. It is not that big of a problem; it is my choice what I want to do. This problem is a matter of choice, something that I have to choose for myself. How or what I am doing today is not going to affect anyone. But when I talk about the problems faced by the world I can not find the solution based on how I am feeling today. Honestly speaking I am feeling very tired, and right now any decision I am going to make is going to be based upon how I am feeling. If I am feeling as tired as I am feeling right now I will probably find a solution for which I do not have to work hard for. Also I would not think about the consequences of my solution, and there are higher chances of my solution becoming a major problem. As I was saying earlier that I have two choices one is to stay in school and other is to go home, and I choose school, because I know that it is what I want to do. What if I was to share my car with a friend who lives close by and she is feeling tired as well and wants to go home and sleep? By me staying at school will affect her probably negatively. Since, she is tired she might just waste time or she might do some math problems and miss every one of them.
Last week we had to blog about the three major problems the world faces today. I think world is full of problems, so full that if I were to give the world a second name it would be problems. Where are these problems coming from? I always ask myself this question, because whoever creates a problem he is the one with the solution also. For instance, a math teacher giving us bunch of word problems to solve, how is the teacher suppose to check our work without he/she having the solution. Back to my question who creates these problems? Are they people, or politicians? The creator depends on the type of problem it is, I can not say that the tsunami in Indonesia was caused by the surfers or the politicians. It was a natural disaster. The people can argue about it based on their own believes about the cause of the tsunami but it was something done by our creator. (Well bringing in the word creator brings in my personal believe, which is that every thing happens on this earth is for a reason, regardless of what it is. It could be an earthquake or could be someone winning a lottery, it is all based on a reason, which we can not see and what is hiding behind it. But it is all done by God all mighty.)
Regardless of what I believe or what anybody believes in there were many people who died in the tsunami. Each year we pay taxes even though we know that by year 2040 we won’t have the retirement money or anything but still we are paying taxes and social security. Anyways out of our taxes millions of dollars went towards the research programs for our safety and such. But when there is a hurricane warning in the area we are notified because the scientist have the radars set up, but have not they developed anything for tsunamis. Where is all our tax money going? Each year research centers are receiving millions of dollars, who is going to go and ask them if they are making any improvement to avoid the accidents as we recently had.
My main topic is to find a solution to the problem. The problem is not my personal problem but a problem which is faced by the world. Earlier when I talked about sharing my car with someone else, my decision might affect that one person negatively. It could also be positive but it depends on how well I know her and she knows me. Anyhow, today one of the biggest issues faced by people all over the world is poverty. Poverty rates are continuingly rising every where (I think I am going to be the addition because I am among many of the broke Xavier student.) My solution to reduce poverty rate would be to increase tax one extremely wealthy people. People who make millions of dollars each year, but my solution will create bigger problems. Even if I were to be rich and making big buck by working hard I would not want government to take my money away. I would be very upset, like all the rich will if government were to raise the tax rate. Also that money will go to the poor who need help, but once they start receiving free money they will get lazy and stopped trying. The best solution to that problem would be to take the money and create jobs for the needy, instead of giving them free money. Also that money can be beneficial to both classes if that money is use to give on job training and raise the education standard for public school so everyone can take advantage of the higher education. By the means of higher standard education will include certified teachers and a strict school system. The problem of poverty can be solved if the government has enough funds to support the society. But where the money is going to come from, the rich are not going to give up the hard working money the earned. One of the possibilities is to lower the corruption level everywhere. Starting from the government, government have lots of power and their power should only be used to protect there country and to serve the citizens. If the government is going to go and call war on a country with is not hurting them, then that is corruption. They are wasting the money on wars instead of using the money to find jobs for its citizens. Also something should be done about the corrupt citizens; there should be harsher punishment for steeling and killing. Steeling and killing leads the other citizens in loss and it is possible to put the others in poverty. Example: if someone kills a father of a year old, whose mother is unable to work because of disability, or she wants to spend her time with her child because with her level of education the only job she can find is at a local grocery store. By killing her husband someone had put not only that woman in poverty who can barely make enough money to support herself but also the child who will have to grow up and suffer. That woman probably has to seek help from the government and the government has to give her food stamps and the government funds also go down. With her husband’s income they were living happily about the poverty line.

[I don’t know exactly how to separate this so I am just going to do this at the end using brackets at the end of each blogs. It is not possible for me to go and rewrite my blog but I just want to clearly state my main point of this blog. I honestly did not know where to began when I had to make changes in the world. Changes makes me so confuse that even the minor change in blogs I don’t know where to begin. So I looked at the options I had. I did not want to do something that will create another problem, especially the way I think is totally depends on my mood or the way I am feeling. So I looked at the world and picked what is the number one problem to me the world is facing today. So the problem in this blog I am addressing to is the problem of poverty faced by millions of people in this world.]

We should name the world problem! It is just to much going on for even a hundred people to handle. It seems that as soon as you get one problem out of the way, another problem is right there at the doorstep. I think that without problems and major issues, we would not be able to enjoy the positive things in life. I think that over time, theses things will work themselves out. I just hope it don’t take to long. I have enjoyed reading your blog. Good luck in class.

Sorry, but your blog was all over the place and I couldn’t really follow. It seemed like you just talked about something to make 1000 words. Maybe I would have to read your previous blog to understand what your talking about. Naming problems is key but then what. Are you just going to list a series of problems or,are you going to try and find a solution for those problems.

I agree that there are many problems in the world and that it is tough to calculate a solution in which everyone wins. I have to say that poverty is a biggie! The question is how can we alleviate the pain of those who are suffering or straddling the poverty line. What I fail to see is a plan that would work to immediately benefit all people. Everything would take time and unfortunately, people are acclimated to resist change. The world is a crazy place and like you said “problem” should be its nickname. I guess we just need to first find a way for people to survive better than really live.

    Hi Sonia,
I will say I did have to read your Blog twice to get the real feel of what you were saying, but I do agree that the world is and has major problems that we are to tired to solve. i think that there is no hope for future generations and I fear for my own children and my childrens children. I hope and pray that something good happens to give those to come a fighting chance.

I think that i got your drift of poverty being your problem that you wanted to address, but I am not sure if raising taxes is a reasonable solution. It is extremely hard to get the okay on something of that nature. But I do agree with you that poverty is a big issue in the world, but the actual word poverty is very broad, so you may want to pick one aspect of poverty to address. Did you want to talk specifically about welfare and helping people get off welfare or what? I would have to say that your plan needs a little more work.

    Hey Sonia,
I have to say that It first it was kinda hard to follow where you were going with this but the more I read I understood what you were saying. There are so many problems in the world today how could someone just name one. I couldn’t agree with you more. I feel that the way to solving a problem is to get to the root and work your way up.

Hey Sonia, for a minute i was confused on what your problem was going to be but you finally got around to it and i do agree that poverty is a big problem in the world today. Poverty is spreading faster then anything else in todays societies. I think that your plan is good and that you have a very valid point. GOOD LUCK!

I agree with you that poverty is a very big problem. I think that the reason why a lot of money isn’t put towards education rather is because of the fact that it causes separation between the classes. I know that everyone wants the world to be equal but the true of the matter is that it’s not. I think that instead of increasing taxes for the rich and before creating educational plans, first economical spending should be assessed. Sometimes we are spending so much money on things we don’t need. I really liked you blog, job well done.

Yeah you right ife is full of problems and every day somebody comes out of the blue and makes to more for everybody so we got to try and do something about the ones here right now and then well get to them , but if we do that we will be behind on the problems and thats a problem in itself so it sucks to have problems but if you dont have problems than that is a serious problem

I need more details about your plan. What exactly will you do this semester to address a problem. I sort of think the problem you are addressing is poverty, though I am not entirely clear.
