Week 8 Project

359 words by Ronnie

This week’s blog we were supposed to send letters concerning our semester project to important authorities and government officials. I decided to send letters to New Orleans Mayor C. Ray Nagin, Louisiana State Senator Mary L. Landrieu, New Orleans newspaper The Times-Picayune and The U.S. Public Health Service (OHAP). I chose to send my letter to these people because I feel that they are the ones that can help me spread the word around.

Dear_____________,

My name is Ronnie Louis Meeks Jr. and I am currently a biology/pre-med student at Xavier University of Louisiana. I have been asked by my professor to identify major problems facing the world today. In fulfilling the assignment, I have identified HIV/AIDS awareness as a major problem. I n solving this problem, I believe that every citizen of this country must become an advocate for erasure of this epidemic in order to create the change that more than 40 million people suffering with HIV/AIDS deserves to see.
It is my conception that there should be more media and newspaper involvement to raise awareness about the severity of the epidemic. Surely the advertisement of ways in which citizens can become active in the fight against AIDS is just as important; there should be advertisement about ways to prevent HIV/AIDS, showing phone numbers where citizens can get more information. I also believe that all government officials must engage in a stronger fight to incorporate HIV/AIDS education into schools, so that the next generation recognizes and is committed to healing a country whose citizens die helplessly from a disease that they have no resources to fight.
I, Ronnie Louis Meeks Jr., am seriously asking that you and your associates acknowledge the urgency to provide resources by creating national initiatives to open the eyes of Americans in the fight against this disease. If not, you should fight for current initiatives and advertisement to be at the forefront of our nation’s agenda to educate and inform our people about HIV/AIDS.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Respectfully yours,

Ronnie Meeks Jr.
