I felt that a major problem in the world to day was a lack of eduacational opportunies and resources for children in todays school system. Many time children get left behind in class, fail grades, and drop out because they do not get a strong grasp of the material early on. Each year of school feeds off of what you learned in the previous year. If these skills are not master than the child will only fall futher and futher behind. Many times this is why children drop out of school. Education always seems to be on the front of everybodies minds. You year about it on the news, in newspapers, and it always seems to be one of the main focuses when any canidate is trying to get votes. If People know that the children are our future, why do when still have so many that are pushed to the side and fogotten about. In 2000 the National Center of Education Statistics reported that five out of every 100 young adults enrolled in high school in October 1999 left school before October 2000 without sucessfully completeing a high school program. According to the site this rate has remained relatively unchanged since about 1987. For 18 years there have not been any signifficant improvement in the rate of high school completion. Many factors have been found that effect these rates, such as income, race, and family environment. I feel like all it boils down to is having or not having the best opportunities. Usually minorites have less educational opportunites such as the best teachers and extra help. The center also reports that, young adults living in families with their incomes in the lowest 20% are six times more likly to drop out of school than their peers from families in the top 20%. Inorder for these children to finish school, I feel like they needed to be aided along at a very early age. A distaste for school usaully states very early and is due to that fact that the child may not catch on as fast as the other students. Many times a child will slide by to the next grade and by the time they are 15 and can make their own decisions they dropout. In October 2000, 3.8 million young adults were not registered in a high school or completely a high school program. These young adults accounted for 10.9 percent of the total number, 34.6 million, of young adults in the United States. 10.9 percent is two high and something must be done. That is why for my project I have been tutoring young children so that they will not get behind at an early age. Improving dropout rates was not the main focus of my project but is more or less an underlying positive effect from my efforts. By tutoring the children I feel like I can make them think that school is not so bad and that they have the ability to do and be anything they want to do or be. The fact to not lie. It is a proven fact that dropout and school completion is a problem that startes off at an early age of a child. By helping these children learn better I feel like I can help to improve many other aspects of there lives
This is the site from which I got my information
