My Project is a very difficult project but is shortly coming along. The first thing that I had to do was call around to local doctors offices and let them know about my project. Being a doctor is a very busy job so many of the offices I called did not respond to the messages I left. Other doctors responded letting me know that I had a great idea but right now they simply could not help with such a big project. I however did manage to get in touch with a few doctors who said they would offer there services in small ways that might help. In total I received information from three doctors, two in Metairie and one in the West Bank, saying how they would contribute. One doctor said that although she may not be able to help with a lot of the actual project that she may be able to help me get the project started. She offered her services by saying she could meet with me to help me educate myself on a lot of common health issues. It was very important to her that I understand what I am doing and talking about. We planned on meeting as soon as possible to talk about routine checkups and things of that sort. She also said that she may be able to help by holding an informational session to inform people of how important it is to visit the doctor on a regular basis. She also gave a great suggestion of how she thought Xavier would be the best choice for me to start my project. She loved my idea but also knew that it would take a whole lot of work and many years for a project of that capacity to become successful. She reccommended starting at Xavier and getting as many Xavier students to help out as possible. Maybe make it a community service organization. She also said that maybe this could be a college project. For instance start at Xavier and then inform other colleges about the project and get something started over there as well. She said that she would be more than happy to give an information session at Xavier about being healthy and checkups. Of course she left it up to me to talk to the right people at school and get everything set up. Another doctor said he would offer his services by helping at Xavier as well. He said that he could come in and give checkups free of charge to Xavier students once every so often. I informed him that we have doctors at Xavier that already do this so he thought of other ideas. He decided that he was going to talk to other doctors and see how many he could get to offer there services free of charge for one day. Of course it would be like someone could just go to the doctors office and have a free visit. Something would have to be organized at a well known locations where people could come get there check ups. We both said we were going to look into having a health faire someone and how to advertise it. I understand that my original project is a great one but is simply too much for one college student to handle right now. I have modified my project to start even smaller like some of the doctors recommended. I believe that I should start at Xavier and see if I can get some kind of health organization started so we could all work together on informing people of how important doctor visits are.
The Tabernacle is known in Hebrew as the Mishkan, “Place of Divine dwelling”. It was to be a portable central place of worship for the Hebrews from the time they left ancient Egypt following the Exodus, through the time of the Book of Judges when they were engaged in conquering the land of Canaan, until the time its elements were made part of the final Temple in Jerusalem about the 10th century BC. The tabernacle was considered Gods home. People would go to worship and praise God there. Many sacrifices were made at the tabernacle. The people would come and sacrafice their animals to God. The bible authors spent a lot of time describing the tent because everything that the tent contained represented the lives of the Israelites. The contents of the tabernacle include things such as: a copper altar, oil, ring settings, sashes, incense altars, washstands etc.
“The Divine Warrior and His Tent” basically gave different thought on how bible scholars believe the tabernacle came about. Some of the scholars says that they way the bible describes the tabernacle is quite different from the way they believe it to be. There are even other scholars whom do not believe that the tabernacle ever existed. They give an example of the closest parrallel to the tabernacle which is the camp of Rameses II. The article also describes one of the most momumentous battles in the bible, the battle of Kadesh. This battle is not just a well known battle from the bible but a well known battle in history in general.
The day of Atonement is the day at the conclusion of which, according to tradition, God seals the Books of Life and Death for the coming year. The day is devoted to communal repentance for sins committed over the course of the previous year. Because of the nature of Yom Kippur and its associated rituals, it is the most solemn day in the Jewish calendar. A ritual for the expiation of sins was in existence already during biblical times. However, it was only during the Second Temple Period that Yom Kippur assumed central importance as a day of mourning and abstention. By the Rabbinic Period, it had become the most important day in the Jewish liturgical calendar, an importance that the day has retained until the modern period.
To understand Liberation theology it is first important that we understand where liberation came from. Liberation originated in Latin America in the late 1960’s and later spread to other third world countries. Liberation theology is an interpretation of Christian faith out of the suffering, struggle and hope of the poor. In other words it’s a critique of Christianity and church from the angle of the poor people.
In “Canaanites, Cowboys, and Indians” the author discusses the similarities between the Canaanites and Native Americans. The bible says Yahweh sent the Israelites to conquer the Canaanites just as the white men conquered the Indians. The Native Americans are the minority group that is getting taken advantage of. I agree with Warrior in the simple fact that minorities have been getting taken advantage of when it comes to religion due to their ignorance.
I do not believe that African Americans living in America should have liberation theology. Liberation theology is designed for those living in third world countries where almost the entire population is living in poverty. I do on the other hand believe that Africans (black people living in Africa) should have liberation theology.
Feminist literary criticism, arising in conjunction with sociopolitical feminism, critiques patriarchal language and literature by exposing how these reflect masculine ideology. It examines gender politics in works and traces the subtle construction of masculinity and femininity, and their relative status, positionings, and marginalizations within works. Feminist criticism concern itself with stereotypical representations of genders. It also may trace the history of relatively unknown or undervalued women writers, potentially earning them their rightful place within the literary canon, and helps create a climate in which women’s creativity may be fully realized and appreciated. Judith was a woman whom used the way she looked to her advantage in life. Many people would say she used her sexuality for evil but we must look at it from a different standpoint. In the end Judith uses her body in order that the Israelites conquer the Assyrians, which is a very good thing.
Exums article focuses on why women have the role they do in the bible and why women have been portrayed this way for many years. She then goes to say that the bible should be taken from a woman’s point of view and then there may not be so much misinterpretation in the bible.
Susana is about a beautiful young woman. While Susana was bathing in her garden one-day two elderly men were spying her on. The two men took an interest in Susana and wanted to become involved with her. They told her if she would not be with them they would lie on her and say they saw her with another man. Susana was married so this would be considered adultery, which is a big wrongdoing for a woman. She refuses to be with the men and is placed on trial for committing adultery. In the end Daniel comes in and reveals that the two guys were lying so Susana was safe.
I believe that Esther is a more positive role model because she was concerned about her people and stood up for what she believed in.
