Week Nine
The progress of my project is going very well. I have revisited the pharmacies and have talked to the pharmacist in regards to customers buying diet pills. Again the pharmacist have stated before that it is a popular remedy that works rapidly and that’s what people like the most about the diet pills. The customers don’t worry about the possible side affects that can harm them in the future in regards to their livers, kidney, and large intestine being destroyed. I don’t believe that my project can go any further in respect to me asking the pharmacist any more questions regarding how many diet supplements are being sold. But I did get a lot of information on how the pills can destroy internal organs when taken constantly. The pharmacist told me about the different side effects and in each individual person it is different and that the results may vary. Not everyone is going to be affected in the same way. But the pharmacists were very helpful and taught me a lot by informing me that not everyone is affected in the same manner. I also learned that in many of the popular diet pills like nutra slim and trim spa the major factor that is doing more danger to a person’s body is that of the pills reducing a persons appetite and making them have more energy. The pharmacists informed me that this was not good in the fact that how can your body run and have energy at a high capacity for long periods of time with hardly any food in your system. Even though, the ginseng that is in the diet pill has a high potency it isn’t good to take time after time without having something in your stomach. I am proud of myself and in the materials along with the information I maintained from the pharmacist. I learned valuable information and will inform others about the widespread of obesity and the harm factors of taking diet pills. Sixty eight percent of people in America are obese, while two to three percent are morbidly obese. The majority of obese individuals have a high risk of cardiovascular disease, including kidney failure and liver failure. There was a special case that was bought to my attention as I was doing research on the bad side effects of taking the diet pills. It was a case of a Singaporean actress who didn’t need to take diet supplement pills but for a specific role it was mandatory that she lost the weight. While constantly taking the weight loss pills she later on became sick and felt nauseated and at many times she passed out from eating anything hardly but still in taking the diet pills. The actress was rushed to the hospital when she passed out on the set while filming. The physician told her that her liver was baldy damaged and it was due to the ongoing intake of the diet pills. I have talked to people in my family and have told them about the on growing population of obese individuals in America. I really turned to the subject of obesity because many people in my family on both my mother and my fathers side are obese or either overweight. I really love my family and have watched them diet in so many harmful ways. One of my cousins went on a diet that consisted of her only eating one meal a day and it could only be a salad. Three weeks later she was rushed to the hospital. Another case that involved another love one being in danger health wise was when my cousin began to take metabolite. Metabolite is a diet supplement pill that increases energy and cuts down persons craving for food, only allowing them to consume small amounts of food in a day. My cousin documented how long she took the pill and scheduled the time and placed it on her calendar. She had been taking Metabolite for approximately six months and she almost died of kidney failure. Her four year old daughter called the paramedics and her mother was then rushed to the hospital. My cousin was in intensive care for four days and she regretted the fact that she took the diet pills. My cousin returned home and began to diet in a healthier way by eating three meals and eating fruits and vegetables on a regular basis. I noticed that my cousin really was serious about loosing weight and I talked to her about her health, she informed me that she lost more weight by eating healthier and not taking any diet supplement pills. I believe that it is a miracle that my cousin is alive and healthy after what happened to her when she took the diet pills. That is why I am so adamant about people not taking the weight loss pills. I do believe that my project will influence many people to healthy alternatives to loosing weight. I really do want to help people in this way because it hurt me to see some of my family members in pain and going through to much concerning their health, so I know that some people who may have died from taking the pills I know how they feel.
But concerning the background of prophets in the eighth centuries their were many different backgrounds of prophets. To start off with the word prophet is a word that is said very carefully because it is a word that is taken very seriously. This word is defined to be one who is chosen by God. God chose people to perform certain acts in his favor and they in return earned the title of being a prophet, but this is a name that God presented to one of the people like Moses who performed miracles through God. But, in the eighth century BCE the prophets were different in delivering their messages because not all of the prophets were the same in their backgrounds. By me saying this I mean that their were a major difference in the society of the prophets. There were rich prophets and there were poor prophets. And with this their was a difference in the preaching and the teaching styles of the prophets. In the eighth century the prophets were highly respected and were very informative in decision making. As a specific example of the roles of the prophets they issued check and gave balances to the kings in their region. They had so much power that they basically told the kings what to do and the kings had to obey them at any cost. Another specific example of the roles of the prophets was that they had statements of symbolic action. The prophets you can say had the power to make laws and it stood for importance through out the years they reigned. The Major Prophets that we talked about in lecture were the prophets Amos, Isaiah, Micah, and Hosea. These were just a few of the many prophets that reigned and have done marvelous things in the history of the bible that is why they are called biblical prophets. But the role of the prophets expanded to just more than dictatorship, ruling and making laws but it went as far as to them making specific laws concerning their communities well being in relationship to God. In the sixth century the prophets sent messages to the people that God was a mad God and that he would punish people who didn’t abide by his rules and his commandments at first. Then the prophets went and changed their views on how God viewed the society. And in saying this is the prophets changed the view of God and went as far to say that God was a changed God and that He wasn’t mad anymore but that he was forgiving. My favorite prophet would be that of Moses. Moses was a man who stood up for the Jews and led them to the promise land under the supervision of God. But many people mistake the task of being a prophet. To add many people found it to be difficult for them to listen to the prophets especially when times were good for them. Many people felt as if they were cursed to be a prophet and felt as if it were a burden to have to do Gods work. But the reason that I like Moses is because he stood up and let God know that he stood for himself at times also. When I say this I mean that Moses told God that he didn’t want to leave his family and wanted God to know. Moses didn’t necessarily want to have the responsibility of handling business for God because he was tired and weary. My favorite chapter in Amos would be that of chapter three verse one through fifteen when Amos states that the people of Israel are the chosen people and by being so they should withhold the commandments of God and should be held accountable over anyone else because after all they were Gods chosen people. God holds them more accountable for their actions opposed to other people. I found this to be hilarious because I thought that God was a just God and didn’t show any favoritism. I do believe that one of the readings does relate to my project in the respect to Jeremiah. Jeremiah is considered to be the “Weeping Prophet” he mourned and was very depressed with all of what he saw in his time with the destruction of Jerusalem and how people stop repenting to God their sins. He felt as if there was nothing else that could be done. He was chosen by God in his mother’s womb and just like Moses, he really didn’t want to have the responsibility of doing work for God. But in respect to my project I believe that I am sad at the condition that many Americans are in right now concerning their health. There is simply no excuse as to why some people are obese. I to have weep and have felt sad when I saw the conditions of some of my family members. According to Isaiah and the suffering servant, I believe the suffering servant to be Jeremiah. It states that he was an unattractive man who felt very weary because he had the burdens of everyone’s sins on his shoulders and was held responsible by God for that. In the book of Ecclesiastes all things of vanity are considered to be void under the sun and never are completed and have true wisdom like Solomon, himself who was the wisest man who ruled. This means that there will hardly be anyone who will be as wise as Solomon and calls for people not to look because all things that are in existence now all are vain and can’t see beyond one point in their lives making them incapable of living life the way God wants them to. This confused me because in today’s society there are people who are wise and have had wise children and were not vain. In psalm chapter twenty two, there is another cry out to God from a sufferer and he is asking God to step in and to take the pain away. “My God, my God why have you forsaken me, and why are you far from my deliverance, from the words of my groaning?”(Homan, Dummies 235). This first sentence speaks very loud to the reader, and is said to be Jesus Christ suffering on the cross as he is praying to His father in Heaven. Psalm chapter twenty two verses one through four.

I think you chose a great topic to do your project on based on the fact that so many people are unaware or they just ignore the side effects of using diet pills. People will do anything to achieve the look they want at any cost nowadays. I feel that you should try to do more to put your point of view out there besides just talking to pharmacists. Maybe you could hand out pamphlets regarding the issue, on the health care isles of convenient stores and local pharmacies. I think that this is a rising issue that we all should know about and try to ultimately put a stop to the distribution of diet pills. Keep trying to implement your project so that it can be heard among everyone in the surrounding communities and do not get discouraged. Good Luck!!!

In a world where image is everything, knowing about diet pills and its affects on the body was a good project for you to choose. Many people are going to various lengths to get the perfect body, but they do not realize the consequences those lengths can have. Diet pills are just as risky as bipass surgery but you never really know what the outcome will be. Since you chose to do a project that relates to your field of study, I think that you will be prepared to go into this field, because you already have an idea of what to expect becaue you have talked to pharmacists.
Good Luck with the rest of the semester!!!

A very fresh and new idea compare to most of us. it is great that you are trying to let people aware of side of effect of diet pill. There are indee people out there that ignore those side effect and over use those pills. I dont think your project can “save the world” but it is something that most of us need to know and should not ignore..Keep up the good work and good luck

I think this is a very serious issue. In my opinion, there are many people who use diet pills without truly knowing the side effects of their actions. I am glad that you are here to shed some light into this very dangerous practice. I think you project is very good. I want to wish you all of the luck. I know that your project will touch the life of someone and help them not to make that terrible mistake of using a diet pill.

I think it is good that you are coming along well with your project. Diet pills are not whats up, but there are several people that take them like they are vitamins. Alarming people of what the side effects are is what is needed because there are so many people that just take medicine without reading what could happen to them. I also think that it is important that both sexes be talked to about using them because I know there are more men that are concerned with their weight than women. Or at least, I know more men that more concerned with their weight than women.

I think you can also write a letter to the food administration to ask them to check all the foods and pills that go out to sell, but asking a pharmacist about those diet pillls was a good start. I didn’t know that those diet pills were that dangerous. It made me think twice about taking those. At first, it does look like a good and easy way to lose weight, but that person that takes those will lose in the end. Good job on researching. Keep up the good work and good luck on passing this class.
