Week #13: Blog exactly what you have done to improve the world regarding my project. This Blog does not involve future plans, but actual things I have done this semester to implement my project. I tried to post a picture Dr. Homan but I forgot how to do what you showed me. Maybe I can come to your office one day this week before you last final.
When I first figured out that I would be doing a project dealing with the youth many different ideas came to mind. I thought about doing a rally, teaching, and even taking a trip to the jail house. I’m so curious to know how it looks in the jails house and what they do. Do they stay up all night have fights, I mean what really goes on? I remember about four year ago sheriff Foti to a group of young individuals to the jail house so they could see what it was like. Being that my project deals with youth violence I think it’s a great idea for some students that misbehave to visit the jail house. My reason being is that they get to the real life version on someone who misbehave. A trip to the jail house might scare them and make them realize that there are consequences! I thing it a great idea because it will give kids a three-d version on what life is behind bars. So outside of my project I have been getting information and requirements on what is need to take jail house trip with about forty students.
I went to the jail house here in New Orleans located on Tulane and Broad. They basically said that I would have to go through plenty of steps for the kids and I to enter the jail house. Background checks of the kid parents had to be done and many other things they may cost money. So at this point I haven’t gave up on my idea I’m just going to find a better approach. We will eventually get into the prison (the right way).
Last Saturday I went to the pool I work at each summer for three year located on Lafife St. here in New Orleans. It a New Orleans Recreation Department (N.O.R.D) that open up pools all over the city so the children would have something to do over the summer. I would say ay least seventy-five percent of these children are somewhat mischievous.
I went to the pool and spoke to them about my project and got feedback from them. Most of them was interested and looked forward to having a mentor. It amazed me because as they expressed their feeling I saw that they couldn’t go home and talk to their parents. Their parents were either in the street or busy with their other brothers and sisters.
The project that is going to Warren Easton Fundamental Senior High is working out well. The project will take place the third week in August and the children and parents are looking forward to it. We’re setup to complete different activities that are needed. Painting, sweeping, drawing, and fixing up classrooms. I went to Dr. Homan’s office and this idea came to mind and ever since then I have be trying to accomplish it. I know Theology 112 is going to be over but I still will impact the world and thank Dr. Homan for challenging me to do so.
It seems so hard in the beginning process of trying to reach a goal like this but in the end the awards a re priceless. I have accomplished a lot in Theology 1120. I know more about the bible and I’m updated on the things that actually took place here on earth. Dr. Homan has challenged me to think critically and state why I believe so. And he also has should me that I can change the world one day, I just have to contact the right people and say the right things. Thanks Dr. Homan. J
In the picture that I wanted to post for my project ( I can’t upload the picture for some reason) is at the New Orleans Recreation Pool. They were plenty of kids. The ones I remember names were Bryon, Ashley, John, Tina, Larry, Brittany, Kim, Brandy, Aaron, Alexis, Tommy and Leo. These kids just took a regular picture at the pool with their lifeguards. The one reason I was able to go on the premises is because I worked there before so the boss know me. I enjoyed that day with the children and I would like to do something for the ones that aren’t bad. I think we should also create something fun for the children who do get in trouble the whole school year. Like maybe a fair, pizza party, or even a free trip outside their state. The “make Me Proud” project fund is going to have to look into this.
In your opinion, using Acts as source, what were the three major problems facing the early Church after Jesus? What were Luke’s goals in writing Acts. Summarize Paul’s message in Romans. Imagine you were James–Why might Paul make you upset. Why do you think that Paul’s views came to dominated Christianity.
The book of Acts describes the development of Church and the practices that commonly take place during church gatherings. In the 1st century C.E., church attendees would met together in homes or public areas for prayer and reading and understanding of the scripture. While the intentions of church were good intentions, there were some major problems that I feel the church was facing after Jesus ascends into heaven. These problems include the extreme external hate that people have toward people who attend church, lies within the church, and also unfair treatment.
Luke goal in writing acts relates to Paul’s message to the Jews in the book of Romans . It was to let the people of Israel. The promise that God made to them in saving Israel was still valid. He also goes on to teach them morals and ways to leave life in peace. If they love one another and honor other about themselves, don’t take revenge or do anything where treat themselves higher than any other individual their lives will ultimately be miserable and full of unhappiness.
It is difficult to get people to believe something that is right in front of them so getting them to believe in something abstract was an even bigger task. The fact that people that did have faith were persecuted and some jailed for their beliefs made non-believers even more reluctant to conform. Another problem that coincides with reluctance is the misleading that was prevalent during this time. Many people were lying about matters concerning Christ. People were willing to pay to have the power to make people have the Holy Ghost. It was like people saw the power of religion and instead of them joining they wanted to be in control of it. Religious figures have a lot of control even today. People were anxious for this power to have people in such vulnerable situations. The separation that existed between the people was another issue. If a person was from another place or religion they were viewed as inferior. The people were thought of as being unclean. Maybe this was the root of prejudice. The best way to keep people from thriving is to keep them divided in some way, shape, or form.
Luke’s main goal in writing Acts was to spread the word that Christianity was open to for people. He wanted Jews and Gentiles to know they were welcome to follow this religion at their own free will. He also worked to show that the Old Testament had been fulfilled. Paul’s message to the people emphasized the importance of faith. He discouraged the people by telling them that they would not be rewarded by the amount of work they do. He helped people stop wanting to spread the word about Christ and Christianity. It is almost like he is saying if you just believe everything will be okay and you will be saved and well. This seems unlikely because even today if you sit at home and believe your bills will get paid you will get yourself into a lot of trouble. This is why James would have been upset with Paul. Paul does not focus enough on the importance of action. “Action speaks louder than words”, is James’ argument. The people readily accepted Paul’s views because if you think about it life would be much easier for us if we lived on faith alone. We would not work, clean, or do anything that requires a lot of energy. It is so much easier and convenient to sit back in hopes that things will get done. Like I said earlier you can sit back and not pay a bill because you have faith that it will be taken care of. You would not clean either because you have faith that this will get done eventually. It was the easy way out.

Your project is great. There are still so many grammatical errors in the writing though. Let me know when you go to Warren Easton and maybe I can help.
