My Project

Right now there is a shortage of volunteers every where, like the recreational centers for kids, the health units, the shelters, the nursing homes, the hospitals, habitat for humanity, and etc. Volunteering will be my project of choice. Today, there are so many areas of volunteering, so you will have to think about it and pick the one that is right for you. You should never volunteer in a place or profession that you don’t like. You should volunteer in a place that you will enjoy and feel comfortable with. Volunteering is like having a job but not getting paid with a check or money, instead, you get paid by people thanking you and giving you respect. I am thinking about a project for myself to do something about the need for volunteering. I will go and volunteer at a health care clinic or the hospital. I will try to get others to volunteer also. I can’t do anything major because I have school, work, and two kids and I have to make time for them too. So volunteering is what I can do two or three times a week. Depending on my class schedule, I am thinking that this will last more than just one semester.
I chose health care because that is what I am interested in and I already have some experience in that area. I don’t mind helping out in the medical field. I think I can help the nurses who are short handed, I can take the patients’ vital signs, and I can draw blood and give shots. I can help the doctors translate for Vietnamese people who don’t understand English very well and explain the procedures being done. I can help do billing electronically or by paper, and I can help around in the office area doing paperwork and scheduling appointments for the patients. The doctor’s offices are pretty busy now a day that most of the people have moved to the westbank after hurricane Katrina. Some of the doctor’s offices don’t have enough people to finish up the paperwork needed for community care referrals, they don’t have time to eat, or have time to take a break. Sometimes patients get so frustrated that they end up leaving and sometimes they have no choice but to wait and see the doctor. I want to be there to relieve their tension so that they can do a better job at taking care of us when we go to the see the doctor. No one wants to go to a doctor’s office with bad service and bad practice. So my plan for next week is to go to a clinic or hospital and volunteer my time. I want to be able to help even if it is just a few days a week, a little bit helps, and it is better than nothing. I also want to go to church and volunteer a little bit here and there. Sometimes they need the extra help too.
Some similarities between Genesis and Enuma Elish are that they both talk about how human beings were created. From wikipedia.com, the story Enuma Elish was a Babylonian Creation story that was written on seven tablets, while Genesis has two different creation stories and forty-eight other chapters. Both Genesis and Enuma Elish talked about sin, rebellion, and punishment. One of the similarities is the number seven, Enuma Elish has the seven tablets and Genesis has seven days of God’s creations. According to wikipedia.org, in Enuma Elish there was a story about how the storm god Marduk killed his mother Tiamat, the sea monster and goddess of chaos and creation. In Genesis, Isaiah 27:1, “In that day the Lord with his sore and great and strong sword shall punish leviathan the piercing serpent, even leviathan that crooked serpent; and he shall slay the dragon that is in the sea.”, also depicts God killing a monster in the sea.
Some of the differences are that in Enuma Elish, they based their lives around the sun, moon, and five planets, while in Genesis, it said that God had created the sun, moon, planets, and stars. In Enuma Elish there are a lot of gods and in Genesis, there is only one God. In class, Dr. Homan mentioned something about the gods creating human beings to serve them in Enuma Elish, and the human beings were made from the blood of Kingu who killed his father and is Tiamat’s son. In Enuma Elish, the earth and sky was created from two halves of Tiamat’s corpse. In Genesis, it said that God had created a man from dirt and blew his breath through the nostril of the figure and gave him life, and he was called Adam. And God created the world by speaking it in Genesis One. Enuma Elish was about Theogony which means “birth of the gods”, while Genesis means “In the beginning.”
Archaeology helps Bible scholars to find out if the events in the Bible had actually occurred or not. Archaeology also helps to find out if it the events actually occurred the way that the Bible said it did. It also helps to locate where the events took place and when the events took place. Archaeologists find artifacts and the artifacts help them to date the events and it tells us who were residing where at those certain times and who conquered who. There are still some conflicts with archaeology and the Bible, because during class when we watched the archaeology movie, one of the gentlemen said that something in the Bible didn’t actually happened the way it did, but the others didn’t agree, and said that the Bible was right. Overall, archaeology will help us to better understand what happened in the past and how it will change our thinking and our lives.

Volunteering at a healthcare clinic is really good. However, if you want to be close to your kids, you can always see if theres an aftercare program at school that helps them with their homework. I think youll have an easy time finding volunteers; ask your friends to join. While ya are volunteering, ya can enjoy the company of each others as well.

Volunteering is a good idea, because there is a lot of work to be done and not enough people to do it. I think you can get more college students to volunteer if maybe you can get the professors involved by maybe offering extra credit in a course if they commit to volunteer a certain number of weeks. Volunteering is about giving and not receiving, but maybe after offering this in the beginning and the students realize how much they are contributing to society will want to continue even after the semester is over.

Wow i admire you for doing this, even with two kids and school. This projects is gonna be hard. You can try to ask other people like a family member or a friend to help you do this project. With school and family you should devote of your time on this project. Good luck

Volunteering is a very good idea, however continuous volunteering in one or two main places may be more effective. You get used to the people and can then try to set up various programs in order better assist people. Volunteering at health care places may be the most beneficial. If you want to help more than one place you should try to set up prgrams where other students can go and volunteer at the other places you find.
