The Pharmacy Mission

It has taken me a couple of days to decide what I want to do for my project. The first idea I had was to come up with an organization for teens to talk about their feelings, issues concerning them, and current popular topics. The group was going to be called “Teens Talk”. I had asked my mother how I could do this project. I had to come up with funds, find a spot to host the meetings at, and find teens to begin. I decided to not do that and came up with some more ideas. The second idea I had was to do something for my city. Now, there are many things I can do. All you have to do is look around and choose something. Since my major is pre- pharmacy, I decided to raise money for a local discount pharmacy. The pharmacist I mentioned in week’s two blog is the owner of the pharmacy. His name is Sean Barbarin. He lost his whole pharmacy in the storm. There was no water line from the hurricane on his building because it was over the roof. I talked to him recently and asked him how he was making out. He said that it was hard. He only has so much resource and money. He can’t do it by himself. I told him that I was in theology class and I had to come up with a project. I asked him if he mind me helping and he didn’t have a problem. The last idea I had was to come up with a committee in my neighborhood. We would get all neighbors who were back and help clean our neighborhood. We could cut the grass, pick up trash, and just make our community what it once was. This would be a great project to do anytime. I feel like it would be a long lasting project. If people see what we are doing now, then others might join and continue the help.
Out of all the choices I had, I decided to sick with the pharmacy mission. The pharmacist and I have a great relationship. He gave me the opportunity to work in his pharmacy before I started Xavier. He knew that I could help him and he would be helping and preparing me for my future. I decided to raise money to help him get back on his mission to helping the less fortunate who can’t afford paying for prescription drugs. There are a number of ways I could raise money. I could have bake sales, sell t-shirts, or even hold community dance at popular locations. I have connections with the radio station so I could advertise some local promotions. This could help him bring back his pharmacy and help get more people aware of his store. I also decided to go with this task because I could learn about the pharmacy business. I could see the ins and out on how to start one. I want to start my own pharmacy one day and this would be a great opportunity to do so. I would also make flyers and pass them out to local businesses and put some on people houses. This would let the people know that their local discount pharmacy is back and need the community for support. There are a lot of ideas on how I’m going to get started and what could my goal be. I feel that if I aim at a mid amount of money to raise then if I raise more it will be a great feeling. Not only do I wish to learn from this experience, but I hope to teach others that no matter how old, rich, dumb, and smart you can change the world by little improvements here and there. The pharmacy condition is structurally sound. It I gutted and cleaned out but it has stopped there. I hope that the money that I raised is enough to get him a head start on the rebuilding processes.
This project I connected to my religion and help me realize why things happen. What is my purpose for the project? I believe that God wants us to come together as one. We need each other in the world and can’t do it all on our own. I feel like it is a calling from our faith and for our relationship with God. When registering for this course, I dint think that we would have to do any major, life changing project. I was nervous at first, but realized that it is the one class that we can say we put our all into. Taking on the task of the pharmacy mission is tough and will take a lot of time, but I’m ready to take on the challenge and make people lives change for the better. This will definitely change Sean’ life and he will change others life and save some too.
In class, we discussed Enuma Elish. Enuma Elish was a creation story. No, it is not the same as the creation story in the book Genesis, but it does have some similarities. One similarity is the number seven. In the book Genesis, it took six days for God to complete the word and on the seventh day he rest. In the Enuma Elish, the book was written on seven tablets. Some differences are the way humans were created. In the Bible, it ay that God created the human; one male and one female. In the Enuma Elish, it says that humans were made out of blood and dirt. Also, God made the world; the heavens and earth as told in the Bible. However, in the Enuma Elish, the world was made out of Tiamat’s (salt) body. He was cut into two. The top of her was the sky and the bottom was the ground. If this is true, it means that we are in her corpse in present day 2006. It sounds weird to me, but it’s what the book story says. In conclusion, archeology plays a big role for bible scholars. The archeologist has found evidence and a lot of relevant material that pertains to the Bible. If they didn’t find this important evidence, then maybe it would be harder fro us to believe some event or all events in the Bible.
