My Project
97 words by bmadison
For my project, i decided to help raise money to rebuild a local discount pharmacy (Franklin Avenue Pharmacy) in the New Orleans area. I not only want to raise money, but i want to advertise by using the radio, promotions, and basic flyers. This project will help get this pharmacy back on its feet. Being that i have some history there from working, this is a deep project for me and very special. if you want to join this team, post your comments. Lets rebuild New Orleans the right way by changing the city for the better!

I like your project very much. I can think of several things that would help make this work, come by and speak to me.

This is a good idea. As a pharmacy tech working on the westbank there are a lot of patients complaining about the distance they have to travel in order to get a prescription filled in a reasonable amount of time because of lack of pharmacies being open in New Orleans. Also at some point there is a strain being put on us because we have a lot more customers and not enough staff which then makes it harder for us to get the prescription out in the time. they expect. I think maybe doing a student sponsored carwash may help with raising some of the money.

Hey Brajuan, this is a great idea. You know just as well as I do that we have a long way to go before New Orleans is back to the beautiful city that we both know it can be. Getting the local pharmacy started again would be a great step contributing to the larger step of rebuilding the city. Also, since this is a local discount pharmany, I am assuming that many of the clients come from lower class backgrounds. Catering to their needs is just as important as catering to the needs of upper class families. You would need a lot of fund raising, but this is a great cause and anything that you and your contributes to the pharmacy would go a long way. Good luck!

I think this is a great idea Brajuan. You could come up with many fundraisers to help with the rebuilding of this pharmacy. You could also get more help in the community by bringing the issue up in local churches and local recreational centers. People in the community would be more than happy to help you with this project. You could even get together with the builders and come up with an exact estimate of how much it would cost. I believe they would be more than happy to assist you in anyway possible. You could have many fundraisers on campus that way the word could get out that you are trying to raise money to rebuild this pharmacy.

This is an excellent idea Brajaun. You should have plenty of help, since Xavier does have a College of Pharmacy, and I’m sure the community will be willing to help as well. You could post things up at the school to get more people involved, or even get some pharmacists involved also. They will probably be able to contact more people.

I like how this project connects to you. Not only did you work there in the past, but also you are majoring in pre-pharmacy right now. The flyers are a great way to advertise your project. You can definitely place those flyers around Xavier and especially Walmart. Also, you can put those flyers on people’s cars on our school’s campus. That’s a sure way to get everyone’s attention. Several bake sales may be a good addition to your raising money as well. With the Halloween holiday coming up, maybe you can set up a special event and have people donate however much money they want to contribute to your project.

Brajuan, I like how this project connects to you personally. Not only did you work there in the past, but also you are majoring in pre-pharmacy right now. The flyers are a great way to advertise your project. You can place those flyers around the Xavier campus and especially Walmart. Also, you can place those flyers on people’s cars around our school. That will definitely grab people’s attention. Several bake sales should help raise money as well. I think this is a fantastic idea, Brajuan. A pharmacy can really help many people especially people that need to drive a far distance to get their medication. What types of activities will you do to raise money? Maybe you can go around your neighborhood or school and ask for donations or create something and sell it for a small price. The profits should benefit this project. How about start advertising it now or spread the word and maybe more people can come together with your project and help finish this project faster. I believe that a pharmacy is always needed and the faster Franklin Avenue Pharmacy is back, the faster the people can benefit from it.

This is a great project Brajuan and i think you know exactly the things that need to be done in order for it to be effective. Raising money on your own will add to the possibilty of the pharmacy re-opening. Should you need any help I would be more than willing to help since you expressed that the project means alot to you.

Hi, I think this is a good idea. Advertising on the radio is great, you can really reach out to a lot of people that way. You can try to have a bake sale or have some type of fundraising selling stuff like candy at school.

This is an excellent idea, not only will it bring business back to that pharmacy but also to New Orleans. Advertising on the radio, promotions, and basic flyers are good idea to get the word out and fast. Besides asking for donation, do you have any other plans for raising the money? One way that the pharmacy can lure customers back is to give them special discount on certain days of the week. Good luck on the project and please keep us updated on this project.

This is a good idea and the fact that it is dear to you will make the outcome even better. Your idea of using radio advertising is a great idea and will probably be the best idea to get a wide base of help financially.
October 8th, 2006 at 8:46 pm
Wow, you must have a lot of connections to be able to do that. Radio, promotions, and flyers will be a great way to spread the word fast, but I hope these promotions won’t cost you any money. Rebuilding a pharmacy is a great way to help New Orleans get back on its feet. Many people probably relied on this pharmacy in the past, and now they probably have to drive a much greater distance to receive their drugs. We did a car wash today for xuaa and raised quite a bit of money, but this project seems like it will need a lot more money than what a car wash can provide. I hope you succeed in completing your goals for your project.

Excellent Project Brajuan. I like the idea of a New Orleans native committing to our awesome city of New Orleans. Adding a pharmacy would definitely bring home a lot of people and spring up a lot of rebuilding action in many local areas. This is a project that will enlighten many relatives. Hey, are you thinking about opening up any other pharmacies in other areas of the world such as ?… Good Luck

I think your project is a good idea. There are alot of residents who do not have enough money to purchase perscriptions or have the menas of finding an open pharmacy. However, I think it would be a little difficult to raise enough money to resurrect the pharmacy and be able to promote it on the radio. That is not to say that it can’t be done. Hopefully you can do it, because it is a good idea.

I appreciate your input on my project. I think it would be a great idea to have a meeting about women’s health issues in the dorms.

I think this is a great project idea. I’m not from the area, but I know small, family-type businesses were especially affected by Katrina. Advertising would definitely be beneficial, so that more people will know about what you are trying to do.

I think your project will be a huge step in the process of rebuilding the city. I know that most radio stations offer free advertising, and could probably offer some useful information on organizations and fundraisers that could help. ALso contacting the local officials could help in getting funds to reopen the pharmacy. I think since you are a cheerleader that some of the cheerleaders could help by organizing a carwash or making signs on bright colored paper. Also, maybe announcements at basketball games could open up the needs of your project to many other people. I think that this is a great project and wish you the best of luck.
