Week 03: Daily Blog

Homelessness is a big problem and it is only getting bigger after Hurricane Katrina ripped through the south on August 29, 2006 and destroyed a lot of people houses and business. The damages of Hurricane Katrina are still being repair as I’m writing this blog. Some people are still living in FEMA trailers or housing. According to Wikipedia, “homelessness or transience is a situation in which a person does not have a long term residence, a stable residence, or any residence at all.” To me, homelessness is that that plus the fact that they need support financially and or mentally. Also from Wikipedia, “homeless people may be found in all parts of the world in varying situations sometimes due to natural disaster, political unrest, war, famine personal misfortune, despair, or illness. Some people freely choose to live a homeless lifestyle’ many of those have an underlying mental illness or substance abuse problem.” I believe that nearly or all of the homeless people if they are given the choice they wouldn’t choose this path. To me, I believe that there are a few homeless people that choose to live that way. They don’t have to work and still get money by begging others. This is just pathetic. They are perfectly fit to work but choose to go the easy way out by becoming homeless. I do not know if the person chooses to be homeless because of some misfortune and they are not emotional stable, but I see some homeless people that look perfectly fine. Those who are perfectly fine and chose to live this lifestyle, means that they do not want to be help. So I will just let them be and will only help those that will help themselves. The project that I’m doing will try to get these people a place to live in first like a shelter or even a FEMA trailer. The next step would be to get them a job.

I’m pretty sure housing would not be a problem to find for these people. I would imagine that homeless people would not be so picky about housing as they are sleeping on the street daily. I think there are still shelters around that are accepting people to come in to live for temporarily. If worse come to worst, there is always FEMA trailer or as some people would call them “Fix Everything My Ass.” We all know how long it takes to request for a FEMA trailer, so I would try and ask if there are any vacant trailer that I see in those FEAM trailer park that they can give out to the homeless for a few months. There are two options that I can think of right now to solve the housing issue temporally.

As far as financial support I will try to help them get a job. The minimum wages is pretty good right now. By getting them a job, it will help them get their confidence back and be independent. Donation is also another options, but it will not last very long. It will help them in the beginning as they are looking for job. I don’t think anyone will donate on a regular basis. Getting a job is the best option, it will make the person feel like he or she belong in this world. Businesses are starting to come back and not a lot of people are back yet. This is the perfect opportunity for them to get a job and start a fresh new beginning. Like an old saying, after the storm comes the rainbow. There a pot of gold waiting for you at the end of that rainbow if you reach for it.

As for those who are homeless due to abuse or mentally ill, this is the challenging part. I can not help them much with this issue except the fact that I can try to seek help for them though doctors. All I can do is this and encouragement. Only time will heal their wound. A major part of this healing process is that the person has to learn to let it go and is really really committed to getting over this problem.
This is pretty much what I am planning to do this semester for my project. I do not know if I will be able to complete this project or not due to school and work. This is a busy and crucial semester for me as I am applying for pharmacy school this semester. Hopefully someone will have the same view as me so I can get a partner and we can share the work load. The more people the better and the faster the rate of change will take place.

According to BibleDudes, “archaeology involves dirt and adventure, but most of all archaeology is the scientific examination of material remains from humans in the past.” Archaeologists analysis remaining found on a mound to figure out how people live back in the days. A mound is not a hill like structure; it is a place where people used to live on. There was no bulldozer at that time to knock down houses once people don’t live there anymore. If there was bulldozer back then, there wouldn’t be any evidence left for archaeologist to analysis about our ancestors’ past and how they live and interact with the environment. The next group of people would just build on top of the previous people house and so on. Each of those layers of house is call a stratum or strata for plural. Archaeologists divide the mound into section for easier record once an artifact is found. It is easier for them to track down the location where the item is found. This is the order of how archaeologists assign recording order from general to specific: site, area, square, locus (place), and finally basket. Some of the major archaeological discoveries relating to the Bible include: Merneptah Stele, Moabite Stone, Nag Hammadi Texts, Ketif Hinnom Inscription, Caiaphas Ossuary, Siloam Inscription, Tel Dan Stele, Gilgamesh Tablet XI, James Ossuary, Dead Sea Scrolls, Uggaritic Texts, Lachish Reliefs, Shalmaneser III’s Black Obelisk, Pilate Inscription, Jehoash Inscription, Solomonic Gates, Sennacherib Prism, and Lachish Letters.
