The comments I received were very inspirational and helpful in the success of my project. At first when I chose this project I know that it would be a challenge and a difficult one at that. However; I came to grips with myself and said these children really need my help and education is a extremely important factor in the future of out children and society. Regardless of the person’s ability or disability everyone deserves an equal change at success. This is what I plan to do, encourage MRDD children to learn and become all they can be. Maybe even learn to feed them or assist their care provider with dressing. At least this is an improvement and a triumph in their eyes.
According to Bibledudes, Feminist criticism is critical methodology that reflects women’s issues and concerns from text that were originally written by men without including a woman’s point of view. It helps biblical scholars analyze the ways the Bible presents women and how these presentations are interpreted by the readers and those teaching these lessons.
Feminist Criticism is a useful tool because it gives us yet another way to interpret the bible. By looking at the bible through the eyes of a woman, one can begin to understand the role women play in the bible, and how women were viewed by the authors of the bible. Some of the questions to ask are: “how are women depicted?”, “do women speak?”, “do women act against their will?” These types of questions are the beginning to interpreting the bible in a different kind of way. In the bible, women are praised when they are loyal, submissive, and caring and motherly. In the story of Samson, Samson’s mother is portrayed as a women to emulate because even with all her knowledge, she never questions her husband’s role or place. In the story of Jepthah, his daughter is remembered as a good daughter because she did question what her father had to do. When women try to trick men or do not act ‘lady-like’, they are depicted negatively. In Delilah’s case, she is viewed negatively because she seduced Samson, and it is ‘her fault’ that Samson was captured. Since men were seen as dominant figures, if a man relied too heavily on a woman he was looked down upon. In Barak’s case, since he asked to Deborah to accompany him in the battle, he was not given any credit for his victory. These are only a few examples, yet they clearly show how women were viewed at that time. Feminist criticism is a another good way to understanding the bible because it opens up a new way to see the bible in the eyes of the people at the time it was written.
My favorite commandment from the Decalogue is Honor thy mother and thy father and your days shall be long lived. I feel that this is a large determining factor in life and what goes on in today’s world and society. I have a great example of this commandment. My great-grandfather is eighty eight years old and is live and healthy. I look home for inspiration and hope that one day I can live to be the same age. Today many of our youth’s lives are taken y guns and violence. But you have to ask yourself is this due to failure of obedience or out of pure spite. In this case I am unable to answer however; I can say that listening to parent’s guidance can deter a child from violence. Staying away from harmful situations will also make the days of your life longer. God mad parents for a reason and I guess now that I am in college and have had a change to experience life outside of my nest; I clearly see life from an adult’s point of view. Before I thought that life, lessons, and trials were not hard at all. I couldn’t understand why parents get stressed out or tried of being tired. But now that I am alone (I still have help from my parents but..) and have to find out things on my own I see what parents mean when they say “Obey me” God is interpreting the same message. If God didn’t think we should have parents we would be born adults. My great-grandfather is a living testimony of this commandment and I am thankful for this.
