Aperraul,
Thank you for commenting on my project. Maybe there was a better place I could have put the box for the lids but I felt the library was the safest place to put it and trust that nothing will happen to it since there’s always someone sitting there at the desk. Also, posting fliers to advertise our selling of the bracelet is a great idea. Thuy and I were basically selling the bracelets as we go since we find it difficult to find a place and actually sit down to have people come to us and purchase a bracelet. I appreciate your ideas and I wish you luck on your project.
April Harry,
Thank you for taking the time and commenting on my project. I never did think about putting it in the Café in the University Center. That would be a better place to place the box for collection of the lids. I know it’s a small market we’re addressing, but it is something we found that is willing to donate money to the Breast Cancer Foundation. We had nothing to lose but to help advertise it. I realize that college students usually don’t have much money to spare, which is why Thuy and I have been going out into the community and selling it. The bracelets were much more popular a few years ago. I think the problem might just be that it isn’t so “trendy” to wear the bracelet anymore. Thank you for all your ideas. Good luck with your project.
Kccuring,
Thank you for commenting on my project. I agree that it is very difficult to keep up with our projects and still be focused on school. School is tough as it is already. At the same time, I feel we have to put as much effort into our projects as possible because the projects make a difference in other people’s lives. I think our project for the UNICEF is also an eye opener. People don’t realize how far a little change can go.
Cdancy,
Thank you for commenting on my project. You are absolutely right when everyone thinks that “it” could never happen to them. I just wish people would also stop and think that if it doesn’t happen to them, then what if it happens to someone they know or love? Wouldn’t they wish they had the right information to pass on to them? I think the brochures would be great also because it’s something people can hang on their refrigerator or bathroom. It’s also something they can pass on to others. My goal is to raise awareness and so as long as the word gets passed on, I think I’ve accomplished a lot.
Sdailey,
Thank you for commenting on my project. I am aware that maybe the library was not the best place to put the box for people to deposit their yogurt lids. I just felt it was the safest place to put it. That way nothing will happen to the box, as far as someone taking it or messing with it. I guess the reason why Thuy and I felt we wanted to take on another project was because we felt our project with raising breast cancer awareness wasn’t going as well as we would have hoped for. But, even if I made a difference in one person’s life by raising their awareness about breast cancer, I feel I’ve accomplished a whole lot.
Mona Wexler,
It is so wonderful to hear that you are clicking on the website daily. You have no idea how much of a difference that can make. After all, what is it costing us right? The Yoplait yogurt lids collection didn’t go so well. Everyone who promised they’d save lids for us didn’t keep their promise. Yoplait has also stopped selling the yogurt with the lids so that leads to the end of the lid collection. I am no longer selling bracelets but I thank you for the support. If you’d still like to help out, we are still collecting change for the UNICEF project. Going to that meeting you mentioned was a great idea. I wish I would have thought about that sooner. As for the Unicef project, I just feel that every single child deserves a chance in this world. It’s tragic they are born and raised under unfair conditions as is already. We throw change around everyday like it’s nothing when it’s everything to someone else.
Huy Dinh,
I never did think about putting the box in the gym. It’s all too late now since our collection of lids is coming to an end. Yoplait has stopped selling the yogurt with the breast cancer lids. As far as the bracelets, that has come to an end also because it was not so successful. I thank you for donating to UNICEF but if you’d like to continue to help, we are still collecting change for UNICEF since we are no longer selling bracelets. A little change goes a long way. I love to help kids because I think everyone of them deserves a fair chance in this world. What is so little to us is everything to them. Thank you for your comments and I wish you luck on your project.
Tobit is an Israelite man taken captive by the Assyrians. Tobit buries the dead which is a violation against the Assyrian King’s order. One evening, while he was digging a grave, he fell asleep. He woke up to realize that birds have been defecating in his eye all night while he was asleep. This leaves Tobit blind, in despair and wanting to kill himself. At the same time, there is a girl named Sarah who also prays to die because she has been married seven times and is still a virgin. Every wedding night, there is an evil demon that comes out and slays her husband.
God sends Raphael, the angel of healing who accompanies Tobit’s son, Tobias, on a trip to collect a debt. During their trip, they are nearly killed by a fish that jumps out of the water. Tobias end up catching the fish and eating it but they save the heart, liver, and gall bladder for future medicinal remedies. Tobias ends up spending the night at Sarah’s house and they fall madly in love and even ending up marrying. Tobit’s son survives the wedding night. When they returned, Tobias and Sarah rubs the fish’s gall bladder in Tobit’s eyes and he is no longer blind. The moral of the story is that no matter how things seem to be, it usually all works out in the end.
Some people would call the Maccabees heroic because they are Jewish rebels who fought against the rule of Antiochus IV Epiphanes of the Hellenistic Seleucid dynasty. Antiochus destroyed the temple and turned Jerusalem into a Hellenistic City. He outlawed Jewish sacrifices and forbade the reading of the Torah. The Maccabees established independence for the Jewish people for about 100 years.
