St. Augustine Catholic School
First and foremost, I would like to thank everybody that commented on my project and gave me their opinions. A problem that I saw in the world was there was a lack of guidance in a percentage of America’s young men. My project was to join Men on the Move program and become a tutor and mentor New Orleans youth at St. Augustine High School. As a volunteer for the Men on the Move program, we assist in the personal development and academic progression of young men that are in need of guidance and help in school. Everybody that commented on my project agreed with me that young men need a positive influence in their lives so they will have a positive outlook on life and want to do something positive in their lives. This is especially true in New Orleans because of the social and economic problems that affect the youth.

In response to Spree Smith’s comment, I also see that a huge social problem has to do with children and adolescents. Social problems that involve children are often overlooked and or ignored because it’s not an immediate problem that is affecting the world right at the moment. This is especially true in inner cities such as New Orleans. When young men grow up in bad neighborhoods they only know what they’re taught or exposed to. While there are some that have the ability to make it out of their own situations it’s not particularly true for everybody. The Men on the Move program’s focus is to help young men realize their potential.

In response to Chase Guidry’s comment, it’s good that you want to select a career field that allows you to have a positive impact in young men’s lives. I still plan on participating in the Men on the Move program because young men always need positive role models in their lives.

In response ot Ashley Grace’s comment, I also agree that the project is a good way to give back to the community. I’ve been fortunate enough to have positive role models in my life that encourage me to want to do something positive with my life. In the program, Men on the Move, we will be going to different classrooms to tutor young men after school that are struggling with their studies. At the same time we will be mentoring them and giving them advice such as study tips and what college life is like.

In response to Jo Jones, I agree that young people need role models all over the world, not only in New Olreans. I also agree with the problem with not enough people giving back to the community that have the means to do so. This is the reason why I joined the program.

In response to Eric Newton’s comment, there aren’t enough programs like Men on the Move with the aim of contributing to society by providing positive role models that influence young black to be all they can be. A lot of the problems that are going on in the world such as crime can be avoided if the youth had somebody to provide guidance as they grow up. I also agree with the comment regarding young men need people in suits to show them there’s more to life than what they see. The more they are exposed to the better.

In response to Tyra Reece’s comment, the process that takes place is that we, the volunteers, go to St. Augustine High School and go to different classrooms that are the most in need of tutors and sometimes we go to the detention rooms to talk to the students. The students who stay after school are the ones who need the most help whether it be academics or they just need to talk to someone if they have something going on in their lives. I’m sure you are going to have a good time in your big sister program because interacting and being a good influence to youth is very self gratifying.

In response to Meghan Bias’ comment, I agree with the fact that crime in New Orleans is a huge problem. I also agree with the comment regarding that this can be avoided at an early age if young men have good role models to keep them going down the right path. Volunteering to become a mentor is something that I have always wanted to do.

I picked this picture because this is where the Men on the Move will be going to volunteer. This is the logo for St. Augustine High School in New Orleans. At St. Augustine High School, we will be tutoring, mentoring, helping in the personal development in young men, and also helping them realize their potential. New Orleans has plenty of young black men who need positive influences in their lives and to expose them to new things rather than what they see on TV or in their everyday lives.

My favorite commandment from the Decalogue is Honor thy Father and Mother. This is my favorite commandment because I was blessed to have a wonderful mother and father who have done all they could to make sure I have had the best life anybody could have. They have a strong influence on me and have never steered me wrong. I wanted to come to college and grow up to be a successful man so they can feel that all the stress I put them through was worth it. They have made so many sacrifices for me that I feel the obligation to take care of them when the time comes.

Feminist Criticism is a useful tool because it helps gives more of an idea of women and their individual parts they had in the Bible. Women are not always properly represented in the Bible and are at times shown in a negative light or seen as weaker than males.
