The three biggest problems facing American today are; health care, education and American politics, I agree that religion plays apart in the lives of most people, but I do not agree that it should play apart in American politics. There was a reason why the founders of the nation stated that state and church should be separate. With there being so many religions in today’s society, I don’t feel that it fair for one person to make decisions based solely off of their religion. What my religion believes it not what every other religion believes and visa versa. One of the reasons that Bush is the president currently is because he ran his campaign on religious issues. The rights of every citizen need to be taken into account and that requires realizing that laws cannot be make based solely upon a personal religious belief. It is not fair to say that gays cannot get married because it is against the bible and would destroy marriage while on the other end of the spectrum it is okay to go to war solely based on revenge and kill innocent people. America when to war looking for Bin Laden and instead for some strange reason once we got over there, Iraq became the top priority and terrorist were put on the back one. The government cannot pick and choose when they want to play the religion card in order to win over voters. If religion is going to be used in politics then it needs to be used across the board and applied to all issues.
The second issue is health care, it makes no sense that America is this rich country that buys and sells what ever they please and yet it can’t afford to provide decent health care to all of the citizens. The health care issue seems to be getting worse and worse as the years go on. The government acts as if the issue will go away as long as they don’t talk about. The poor and minorities are the major groups that are suffering from the lack of healthcare services. I believe that if the while rich people were the ones that were suffering from this issues, there would be some many programs created so that problem would be resolved. It seems that when if there is something that involves the upper classes, the government will implement all kind of laws to make sure their well being is look after. But when there is a problem with the middle and lower classes, the representatives from those groups have to work extra hard just to get the government to even listen to the problem let alone fix it. It makes no sense that I can turn on the TV and hear about how the upper class donated so much amount of money to another country and yet the country they live in is suffering. Don’t get me wrong I do believe that the other countries need help as well seeing that in some countries education is no free and therefore not offered to everyone, but how can you try to help someone else when you don’t have your own house in order. Half of the money to go to another country while the other half could go toward creating a program that would offer healthcare to the ones that are less fortunate to have it.
The issue of education is by far the most upsetting seeing that education is needed to have semi decent life. I remember when I was in middle school they used to say that you at least needed a high school education and if you went to college and got your bachelor’s degree, you would have a successful career. Now you need your bachelor’s degree as the minimum requirement and almost have to go to graduate school to get your Masters and Doctorate in order to obtain a decent job. Seeing that education requirements are increasing, a simple high school education is extremely important. Americans can build schools in other countries and yet we can manage to build schools in the U.S. to ensure that American children are getting the necessary education so that when they do grow up that will not have to depend on government programs to help them survive in a money driven society. The public school system is decaying as the years go on. My mother made the decision to move me out of public school and place me into private school seeing that the school district had lost its state accreditation. Although I was able to move to a better school system, there were students who did not have a choice or the option to move had to stay is a system that was not providing them what they need to go to college.
The problem that I think I could change would be the problem of poor heath care or the issue to poor education. The issue of health care is along the lines of what I want to do for a living. I do understand the plagiarism policy and feel that I will be able to honor it in the work that I submit in the class. The Merneptah Stele was created in 1208 BCE. It is important to biblical studies because it mentions Israel. This was the first case where Israel was discussed and that it was not in the context of the Bible. The pictures show how the city was taken over.
The purpose of showing the Babe Ruth movies was to show that stories reflect the environment that they are written in. The same story can be told in many different ways based on the author and their environment. When studying the Bible we must make sure that we take into account that what we are reading may have some biases attached to it and therefore can’t not read the Bible word for word and assume that everything in it is correct. Just like with the movies you have to be able to speculate about what things were added so that people would be able to relate to the story better. There is no such thing as the Bible because it doesn’t have one author instead it is a book that contains many stories by different authors and if we want to Reference a verse in the Bible, we have to refer back to the Dead Sea Scrolls, Septuagint or the Masoretic Text to get the information that is needed.
