The Enuma Elish and Genesis have many similarities and differences. Obviously, both are creation stories and were created to satisfy curiosity. They were both also created to validate present social and political order. They explain why certain things in society are structured the way that they are. For example, slaves or the idea that men are more powerful than women. The Enuma Elish is a Babylonian creation story and Genesis is in the Bible. Some similarities include the number seven. Both stories use the number seven probably because seven is the number of completion. Enuma Elish was written on seven tables and God created the earth in seven days. Also both stories are named after the first words written in them. Genesis means “in the beginning” and Enuma Elish starts off with “when on high”. Also the fact that heaven and earth are made from the corpse of Tiamat is parallel to God creating humans from dirt. The two also use the same literary language.
