There are some similarities and differences between Genesis and the Enuma Elish. The first difference is that the Genesis creation story is the Christian and Jewish story of creation. The Enuma Elish is the Babylonian creation story. Another difference between the two theogonies is the emphasis on fresh and salt water in the Enuma Elish. The first beings were fresh water, Apsu, and salt water, Tiamat. Although there are many differences between the two creation stories, there are many similarities. Both Genesis and the Enuma Elish have a emphasis on the number seven. The Enuma Elish was written on seven tablets. In Genesis, the earth was created in seven days. In both creation stories, humans were made from dirt. Furthermore, in both stories, it is seen that humans were created to serve their god(s). Not only that, but these stories were both created to make sense of the world. Both stories answered the question of where and what humans come from. Both stories provide an explanation of our lives.
The Tiglath Pileser principle simply states that when people give accounts of the people and countries that they have conquered, that they exaggerate. In the Tiglath Pileser story, he claims to have captured 6,000 men. It probably wasn’t 6,000 men. The number was exaggerated to make him look better.
