An Update on my Project:
I am here to give you an update on my project. Just to remind you of what I am doing, my project is deaing with the future leaders of America, and bettering the chances of a good and successful leader in the future. My project has actually been on pause because most of my kids went on a Western Caribbean Cruise with our church; I also went on the cruise. The classes did resumed on Tuesday, February 27, 2007 before Bible Study. I was excited to get back to work. I began with another brief introduction because we had some new people to join our group; we also had some people that we met on the cruise who wanted to particpate (the kids were really excited about this at first). I started to tell them about their first task but I first let them pick what they wanted to do, even though I had already began and selected them to go to different departments and/or have different roles. There are several performances coming up that will require solos as well as different programs in the church that the Youth Ministry will be in charge of serving at least two services out the month at three different locations, in five different time frames. I know it seems like a lot but if there are three at each location, in some instances, they are only doing it once. Some of the roles or duties include: someone has to open up church with a prayer, do the morning announcements, welcome the visitors, conduct the offering, bless the offering, and give the benediction. The kids were not excited about starting classes again on Tuesday. I think that they have not recovered from the cruise; I know I have not. So, I have been trying to think of other creative ways to excite them all over again about public speaking and learning social and communication skills. If you have any suggestions please feel free to leave a comment.

I always try to remind them about why I am doing this. I also try to show them why it is so important for them to have these skills. In our next session, I will try to find movies, and put together a lot of different people from the various movies that I know they should be familiar with. Then, I can ask them would they still like this character if I changed certain characteristics about them or would they want them leading them in a game or in a given situation. I have also decided to open my age range from nine to twelve to nine to fourteen. We had a lot of parents, whose children are not yet apart of the Youth Ministry, to also want their children to become a part of this “class”. I did ask some of the other leaders to assist me with my project because the group was getting a bit large. In the next meeting, I am also going to get into their fears, so that I can start teaching them that even if there is something that they fear, they can do it even if what they fear most is starring them in the face. This is apart of the pubic speaking. They will also be writing “proposals” for things that they want to do in the ministry. They have to persuade me that this is a good idea or that what we did previously was a bad idea. This helps with public speaking and becoming a good debater and communicator. I really think that things are progressing well so far.

Class Pertain to Profession:
I have never thought about how this class pertains to what I hope to do for a living, but in the past few weeks I have been questioning what my primary ideal profession should be or even if the field that I have chosen is what’s best for me. I will answer this question in regards to why I think that I need this class for my future, period. I think that this class prepares you for the world in that it opens your eyes to a lot of false things. It makes you really take into consideration how you believe things. If I do decide to go into Pediatrics or the medical field, I will need this when diagnosing patients. It may seem like something at first then once you take a closer look, it is something totally different from your first thoughts. This class also opens your eyes to how the world once was, and how it still is not that far from even two thousand years ago. This classes teaches me that I should count my blessings and be thankful for the little that I do have.

Feminist Criticism:
Feminist Criticism is a useful tool because it gives an interpretation of a female’s views not just a male’s views. It allows the reader to understand how women are portrayed to males. Since the stories were written by males, this criticism allows readers to observe what males really thought of females and the type of things or roles that females did during this time. Women did not write very many stories in the Bible; it was obvious when a male told a story versus a female telling the story.
Delilah was someone who was looked down upon because of the situation with Samson. She gave away his weak points. Eve is also looked down upon, because of Adam. She “forced” Adam to eat the forbidden fruit. In my opinion, using both of these examples, the women are not to fault because if the men had not done something, this would not have happened. If Samson had no told Delilah then Delilah would not have been able to tell people his weakness. If Adam had said, “No, Eve. We can not eat the fruit because God said that we could not.” We would not have sins, per say.
Feminist Criticism gives readers a little idea of what it felt like to be a woman and the roles they had to play. It also allows you to see that the male figure was not the best all the time, even though you had to read between the lines. Males were seen as this people who always had their family at heart, but were sleeping around, and beating up women, etc. I give a High Five to Feminist Criticism!!
