Job’s experience relates to rebuilding New Orleans because I remember that just after Hurricane Katrina, many people felt that New Orleans shouldn’t be rebuilt since it was an evil city with bad people in it. They felt that there was a reason why God destroyed the city and that if the city was rebuilt, God would only destroy it again. People tend to think that if you live the 10 Commandments, go to church and live a just life, nothing bad will happen to you. The story of Job shows us that bad things do happen to good people. At first his wealth is taken by when a large number of his servants and animals are either destroyed or stolen. To make matters worse all ten of his children are destroyed and there is no one to carry on the family name. I think that the death of his children is very important because back in biblical days family was very important and people were told by God to be fruitful and multiply so if a person has lost his whole family is a very big deal. I can’t imagine being in his shoes and losing all of my family it would really test my faith to think that God took all of my family. Job is remarkable because after all of these horrible things happen, Job never says anything bad about God instead he says a prayer of praise to God. Then Job is cursed with sores all over his body, this very painful and even his wife seeing her husband in all of this pain says that Job should just curse God and die and still he remains thankful to God. After a period of time, Job finally ask God why all of these bad things are happening to me when I have been a good person, God gives various long answers the question. Job comes to the conclusion that he is unable to comprehend what God says. I have heard the saying all of my life, “You Never Question God and never ask him why.” I understand that I will never be able to understand God and why he does things. But it is one of the hardest things not to do because you always want a reason or explanation as to why something happened. I had a personal experience with this when my grandmother died all of a saddened. I was 12 years old when this happened and she was a very important person to me and it was hard not to question why God did this me and her. When I had my car accident when I was the same age and that was very hard because I experienced a lot of changes due to it and I also wanted to question God but everyone kept telling that I could not ask God for an explaination due to the fact that if I was ever told why I would not be able to understand the reason that would be given to me.

I remember as a young child being told that God blesses those who do good deeds and he punishes those who disobey him and don’t act righteous. For the longest I believed that bad things only happened to people who disobey God and whatever happened to them was a direct result of their bad action. Now that I have had personal experiences of my own I know that when bad things happen to you it doesn’t necessarily mean that you have been a bad person, the things could happen to you for various reasons and you may never know why but you have to have enough faith to know that you will get through whatever is put on you.

Just because New Orleans was hit and the levees broke and flooded the city, it did not necessarily happen because New Orleans was a bad place. I think that because as humans, we always want an answer for why an event happened. When humans are unable to give an explanation, they just say that it was done by God and that because God did it we as humans don’t have the means to understand God’s reasons. I feel that bad things happen to good people and outsiders are unable to know why these happened, but I think that the people that experience the event develop an understanding as to why the event happened. I know a lot of times people say that they have waited to be shown the reason and have yet to understand; I feel that human sometimes feel that if the answer to come in the time frame that they think it should, the answer will never come. God has said over and over that the answer will be revealed in his time and not man’s time.
Psalm 22 is about a person asking why God has forsaken them and is no longer in their presence. I think that at one time or another everyone has felt as if God was no longer in their presence and had left them all alone to fight for them selves. It seems like no matter how much you call on God, he never seems to give you any type of response. One would think that this person is mad at God and yet the person states that God is holy, the person’s ancestors called on God and trusted that God would be there and God always came through for them. I think that Psalm 22 is saying that when times get hard and feels as though God has left you, you must remember that God is always there and God will always help you no matter what.
