President George W. Bush
The White House

Washington, DC 20500

Dear President Bush,
My name is Jamie Harmon, and i am a freshmen at Xavier University of Louisiana. Currently i am majoring in Business management. Currently i am working on a project to help out my area, because life is not about how you live it, but the people that you hep along the way. the reason that i am writing you is because my project deals with poverty and helping young kids get a better education, because they are our future. Most importantly the reason that i am writing you is because change starts with the leader and moves down the line.
You already started to help out students with no child left behind, but thats not enough. Their are still students that dont have up to date books. I think that its not how the students learn and who well the teacher is equiped to teach, but that they get the information. Many teachers have the mindset that they don’t really care because they are getting paid no matter if the students learn or not. Mainly in Louisiana students are behind. This is not because people from Louisiana are dumb, but because we need better teachers, better books, better schools, and better rates for teahcers. The teachers that do care would rather go to a state that would pay them what they are worth. Teachers should get paid just as much as a doctor or even more because if we did not have teachers, we would not have doctors, nurses, lawyers, etc. Currently i have been working with a group called Teahcing Young Children and it really benefits me. I do not get paid, but the satisfaction of seeing the children learn and putting the smiles on their faces. To me education is the door to success for anyone and this is a major way to get rid of poverty.
On of the biggest things to me is that it seems that we as a country throughout history have had a poverty class, which is essential to our economy and this is wrong. With out the poor we would not have people that needed to steal, sell drugs, and buy guns. When people steal, sell durgs, get into gangs, this starts fights and people get killed. This gives the police and ambulances something to work for, which makes the doctors have to do surgery. Most likely the patient will die and this will give the autopsy clinic a job. Once they are finish the funeral home will take the body and the rotation starts over. Some people just are lazy and do not want to make a better life for themselves, while others sell drugs and get into illegal things because that is the only way that they can make it for themselves. It really hurts my heart to see people not knowing where their next meal will come from. I honestly think that we as a country can make a difference. We always help other countries, but most important we need to sweep around our own front door before we clean up other countries.
thanks for your time and i do believe that through education we can cut down the crime rate and make a better society for everyone, a society without poverty.

The key to getting rid of poverty is through education. I am working in New Orleans at St. Peter Claver which has grades 1-8. The students have a great mindset to learn as much as possible. I think that its not how the students learn and how well the teacher is equiped to teach, but that they get the information. Many teachers have the mindset that they don’t really care because they are getting paid no matter if the students learn or not. Mainly in Louisiana students are behind. African American criticism basically gives biblical scholars a better understanding of Africa and the people in the Bible who were Africans. It also helps to correct the misunderstandings in the Bible that have been used to justify racism and other evils of the world. Bible scholars can see that Africa wasa major area in the Bible. Egypt played a mojor role in the Bible, and not just for enslaving the Israelites. Egypt was a wealthy nation, also Etheopia. African American Critisim gives a better insight of the bible other than Africans being heathens.
