I think many Christians in history and today believe the world is coming to end is becuase of different scriptures in the Bible. It was believed that a short time after the Messiah’s return that the world would soon come to end. The end of the world according to the Bible is unknown to man, but signs of the end of time is seen. These signs are wars, plagues, natural disasters and evil or unholy living. Throughout history wars have always been occuring as well as plagues and evil living. Because of this many people throughout history and people today see the wars of their time to be the wars that the Bible is mentioning. During World War II people saw that as a war of the end of time and the War in Iraq is seen by many people today as the war of the end of times. In the Bible it says that Plagues have also been occuring throughout history as well. Plagues such as the black death was a scare that had people believeing the world was coming to an end during that time. HIV/AIDS is another disease or plague which people today see as a sign of the world coming to an end. Natual disaster have been occuring throughout history as well and has caused people in history and today to believe the world was ending during their lifetimes, because of these disasters. Things such as hurricans, tsunamis, and flooding are some of the natural disaster that people see as signs of the end of the world. Evil living has been seen since the beginning of mankind and is something that will be continued to be seen. The more we moe into history the worst the living becomes which may be a reason the previous generation may see the upcoming generations’ time as an end to the world. I too at times find myself thinking that the world may be coming to an end during this time, because the world seems to be getting worse and worse daily. So I can understand how people can start seeing their present times as the time when the world will come to an end. The movie that we watched in class was about the prophet Jerimah and events surrounding his lifetime. It also focuses on King Zedikah’s reign over Judah during Nebuchadnezzar’s reign over Babylonian in 597. It shows the events which led to the overtake of Judah by Babylonian. Zedikah was a weak minded king who listened to his advisors and committed treason towards Babylonian which had superiority over the kingdom of Judah. And instead of listening to the prophecies of Jeremiah a prophet of God he continued to listen to his prophets and to his advisors. In the end, Zedikah’s poor leadership caused the kingdom of Judah to be destroyed. Zedikah along with his sons and advisors were captured by the Babylonian army trying to escape. When they arrived at the Babylonian empire Nebuchadnezzar had all of Zedikah’s sons killed and had Zedikah blinded making it the last sight he saw. Jeremiah was also granted freedom by Nebuchadnezzar after the kingdom had been overtaken. This movie compared to the story of the Bible contained on difference. In the movie Jeremiah was given a love interest which was not recorded in the Bible.
This semester and blogs!!…were Hell!! I believe that me and everyone else who endure them from beginning to the end deserves an A+ and nothing lower than a B+. I have blogged more than the required 1000 words for every week and believe I have shown a good understanding of information learned in class, and also from related readings. Although I wanted to give up many times, I kept myself pushing forward down to the last dime. Even though towards the end I began to slip when it came to posting them in the time assigned I still took all my strength and pushed to complete them while meeting the requirements. I believe that nearly everyone in the class would agree that my project considerably changed the world. It may not have been a drastic change, but it was a change that may led to even greater changes. I have informed people of the problems of Louisiana’s wetland depletion and also given them information on ways in which they could help by either donating or volunteering. I am now able to read the Bible and consider the historic background and also the author’s motivation for writing a text of the Bible when looking to understand the meaning of a scripture. For example, I can now understand why some authors who many have been Mosic priest would have criticized Adam priest while writing a text of the Bible, because there was a strife between those two priest throughout history. I am able to use critical thinking when reading the bible and take a look at its meaning beyond the spirtual point-of-view. I also think my project exemplified Xavier’s mission which is ” is the promotion of a more just and humane society. To this end, Xavier prepares its students to assume roles of leadership and service in society. This preparation takes place in a pluralistic teaching and learning environment that incorporates all relevant educational means, including research and community service.”( Xavier’s Mission) I have promoted a more humane society by finding ways to protect us from harmful effects of the depletion of Louisiana’s wetlands. From this project I am giving community service by volunteering my time to the advocation of restoration and helping restoring the land through a hands-on services. By starting this project I am now looking for ways to help which will put me in roles of leadership in order to have my message heard and action taken on what I would like to see changed in order to move closer to the restortion of Louisiana’s wetlands and/or any other project I decide to take part in and work towards a change.
