My PROJECT - Edited

169 words by hawrts

I plan on basing my entire project around a young man at my church who was recently shot in the chest while to break up a fight in his neighborhood. I am going to work with the teenagers at my church so that they understand what happened to him and why people should have a right to protection from violence. We’re going to discuss treating people with respect and love and working things out with words instead of warring with each other as well as staying away from angry people (Proverbs 22:24) and dangerous situations. We’re also going to talk about money and learn how to save it by setting a monetary goal and donating the money to the police force. We’ll be requesting permission to take a trip to Angola Prison to tour the old jails and to talk to some of the prisoners and jailors; I will also be interviewing a prosecuting attorney about the difficulty of finding witnesses and asking him about witness protection programs.

I think that you have two very important topics in your project. Violence between youth is an on going problem and I believe people need to be able to discuss it in a positive environment. And i think it is a good ideal that you guys talk about avoiding dangerous situation because often times were careless. One thing I would say is that you should try to impact others not just a group of youth at church because usually people whom are already attending church have an outlet to express their anger or talk about violence. So it would be cool if you held a program in which people outside of church can collectively discuss ways to decrease violence. And that may even bring some outside testimonials to your project. Focusing on witness protection is also beneficial because it can provide people whom are experiencing violence an outlet. It also informs people of their options. Maybe you can have a detective come out and speak about witness protection so that people will be fully informed. Going to Angola is a very good ideal and I would really like to go.

Wow. You have a very interesting situation within your project. Talking with the teenagers of your church about supressing violence shouldn’t be too hard. It is important to inform them about the positive ways to solve conflicts between each other. Your project will show them respect and teach them responsibility. Visiting the prison will hopefully show them that the prisoners would much rather go back to change their wrong doing in the past. Great ideas!

It’s evident that you’ve put a lot of thought into your project. It’s good to see that some type of action is being taken to avoid another incident like the one you speak of. Kudos for coming up with a way to help solve a problem that seems to be on a steady increase. I think it is a good idea to inform those outside of your church community. I don’t currently know of any programs that attempt to cease violence by talking to the youth and this would be a great start.

I think that is great that you are basing your project on someone that got shot in the chest while trying to break up a fight in your community. I also feel that the person that got shot was extremely brave. I can’t believe that he actually tried to break up a fight. I personally wouldn’t have done it, especially knowing the danger of what could possibly happen to me. I’m the type of person that was taught never join a fight, always go the opposite direction. I also think that your project is really good. I find it interesting that you are taking interest in your community’s violence awareness. I feel that it is important to let people know and make them understand the type of things that really go on in communities, especially the stuff that people push aside and try to forget. From the topics that you listed I think your discussions are going to be really good. I am also trying to establish a way for the police to get a higher pay. All in all, I think your project is going to be a good one. I would also like to take part in your discussions and especially take that trip to Angola, so let me know the details of where your church is and when you plan and starting these discussions.

I like how you are targeting the youth at your church to inform them and to help them understand what happened. I feel that this a good idea. There has been such a rise in voilence. I think that the trip to the prison and having some of the prisoners talk is an effective way to inform the youth.

Good idea! I never would have come up with this. I like the idea because it addresses a problem that everyone has had to deal with at some point in their life. Violence lurks on every corner, and it is important that we are educated on ways we will be protected from things like this. It is also important that we support those that aid us in being safe. To me there are no flaws in this project. Good luck, and I hope everything goes as planned.

Yes, sometimes it does take a startling situation to spur awareness. You picked a great focus. Community violence is one of the major problems in the city. Murder capitol right? I like your idea of supporting the police. Often it seems they are in a loose-loose situation where the criminals are against them but the community is not with them. Going to Angola should be quite and eye opener. I also agree with looking into the witness situation. People never want to get involved, fearing for their lives, and not wanting to be “snitches”. Maybe your project will show the community that until it stands up, it will never be secure. My prayers are with the young man. Good Luck!

I think that you have an excellent focus for your project. I am sure after being show that young man will need all the support he can get. And since he has experienced being shot, maybe he can talk to the teenagers in your church and tell them what he went through so they will not want to do it. Violence is an important issue with our youth, and it is great that you want to take them to Angola, so they can see that they do not want to be there, and maybe impact them to want to live a violence free life.

This is a very good idea. It’s nice to know that you have an interest in educating children with the problems facing the world today. I think that is issue is definitely an issue that should be discussed, especially with children, because we face the problem of violence everyday. I believe that the angola experience will definitely show the children what a life of crime and violence will bring them. So I hope you go through with this project because it will definitely help.
