The issue in today’s society that I have chosen to address is the degrading of women by men and through advertising. With my topic I will discuss a variety of things from the portal of women in videogames, to stereotypes of women, and video girls also know as video vixens. Listed bellow is some information I have found to be very useful while researching my issue and creating the type of program I want to work with. Some of the information comes from the internet while other come from books.
Statistics to back up my argument:
The National Eating Disorders Association reports that one out of four TV commercials send some kind of “attractiveness message,” telling viewers what is and is not attractive.

• Children Now reports that 38 per cent of the female characters in video games are scantily clad, 23 per cent baring breasts or cleavage, 31 per cent exposing thighs, another 31 per cent exposing stomachs or midriffs, and 15 per cent baring their behinds.

• Shari Graydon, former president of Canada’s MediaWatch, believes that women’s bodies are sexualized in ads in order to grab the viewer’s attention and that women become sexual objects when their bodies and their sexuality are linked to products that are bought and sold. Jean Kilbourne a media activist also goes on to input that women’s bodies are often dismembered into legs, breasts or thighs, reinforcing the message that women are objects rather than whole human beings.

• In to day’s society the media portrays men as one of ten roles. He is seen as Hero, Outdoors man, Urban Man, Family Man, Breadwinner, Man at Work, Erotic Male, Consumer, and Quiescent.
Rohlinger, Deana A. 2002. “Eroticizing Men and Cultural Influences on Advertising and Male Objectification.” Sex Roles 46: 61-72
• Woman are only shown in one of three aspects Domestic, Sex Object, and or Beauty.
Furnham, Adrian and Twiggy Mac. 1999. “Sex Role Stereotyping in TV Commercials”. Sex Roles 41: 413-437.
• As female models have become thinner, women in society have tried to follow the trend. The Media is likely to be among the most influential promoters of the thin ideal for women”.
Silverstein, B. Perdue, L. Peterson, B. & Kelly, E. (1996) The role of the mass media in promoting a thin standard of attractiveness for women. Sex Roles, 14, 519-532
The house of god:
The house of god is the tabernacle. It is built with gold, silver, bronze, wood, linen, goat’s hair, and leather. The tent was built by Moses. God gave Moses exact instructions on how he wanted it to be built. God stays in this tent and even turns down a temple. With the tent, God was able to move where ever the Israelites went. He couldn’t do that with a temple. This shows how god was always with the Israelites. It showed that he is dependable and wants to be with his people.
The Promised Land:
The idea of “Promised Land is problematic because there were a group people already living there. The history of the war can be found in the book of Judges.
The Promised Land is another name for the Land of Israel. According to the Bible the land was promised by God as an everlasting possession to the descendants of Hebrew patriarchs Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. The idea is frequently used symbolically by Christians to reference heaven. God Promised Land to the Israelites already belonged to the Canaanites. The Israelites felt and still feel they are the rightful owners of the Promised Land since it was “promised” by God, himself. But, the Canaanites were not so willing to lose their homeland sine they were their first. The concept of the Promised Land and who it belong to caused violent uproar, and conflict in the area. The Israelites resorted to using violence in order to get the land promised to them. The Israelites slowly killed the people of Canaan until the land was theirs.
Midterm:
So we have come to midterm and half the semester is over. I am really enjoying this class much more then I thought I would.Dr. Homan is pretty cool and laid back, but these blogs they are a killer. It is taking everything in me just to try to make it to 1000. I am not a person who has 1000 things to say. I am supprise at how much star new Dr. Homan knows. He does not look like a person who would be in to that kind if stuff. Ok so now lets talk about this test. We took our midterm this week instead of last week because we did not have all the information we need to take it, but for what it worth this week or last week I do not think it would have change my grade. That test was so hard I do not know if I even got one answer right. I pay attention in class and take great notes but that test was hard. I am so grateful he is giving us a second chance to take it again. As hard as I study the first time I will do more the second. At least now I can say I now what to expect on the final.

Valencia, you are doing a good job at midterm. Try on the last two entries to expand them a bit to get the 1000 word minimum.
