Week 14

It is plausible for most Christians in history to believe that the world was going to end in their lifetimes because the prophets living during their lifetimes prophesized or had visions of the end of the world with symbolism corresponding to their lifetimes. From the Bible’s Book of Daniel, Daniel has visions of God’s Kingdom arriving. Daniel is even promised that these visions will come to pass. In the Book of Revelation, John has a vision similar to that of Daniel, this time envisioning future events for seven churches. The message was for Christians to remain faithful to God during the persecution and that Jesus is coming soon. John also sees visions of Jesus holding a scroll with seven seals that depicts apocalyptic events that are to come about. Another vision that John has involves a pregnant woman (Israel expecting Jesus’ arrival), a dragon (Satan), and two beasts (Roman emperor and Roman provincial power). John’s vision of a “great whore” (Rome) who commits “adultery” with all the kings of earth (other cities), serves as another reference to symbolism reflecting the lifetimes of Christians in history.

As a young boy, Jeremiah, has a dream where a young child appears stating that Jeremiah is a prophet. This dream took place in the Holy of Holies where he saw the arc of the covenant. A few years later as an adult Jeremiah must soon perform his first sacrifice at the Temple in Jerusalem. On several occasions Jeremiah envisions a “simple man” who tells him “it is time to speak to God and to repeat after Him”. On the day of Jeremiah’s first sacrifice, he does not kill the lamb and gives a prophecy from God. His prophecy upsets the king and many others. Jeremiah then flees the city. Jeremiah meets a scribe named Barack who helps Jeremiah spread his prophecies. Jeremiah returns to Jerusalem to warn the people of the Babylonian’s attack, and for the people to surrender to the Babylonians to be saved. Jeremiah is beaten by Helleniah during a court meeting with the king, and Jeremiah prophesizes Helleniah’s death to be one year later. Judith, Jeremiah’s girlfriend, was stabbed and killed in Jeremiah’s arms while imprisoned by the general of Jerusalem. As Jeremiah predicted, Helleniah was killed one year later, the city of Jerusalem was destroyed, and the king of Judah was enslaved by the Babylonians. Towards the end of the movie, Neverkenezer commanded Jeremiah to be set free from prison as the city was being destroyed.

At last, I have completed the most important part of my project—mailing off my personal letter and survey copies to four of our country’s presidential candidates. Although the project and the blogs were much more difficult than I expected, I can honestly say that I learned a lot of new information about the Bible and about world wide conflicts. Also, I had a lot of fun meeting with the various survey participants from places all over the world. As I mentioned in a previous blog, everyone who I have contacted regarding my project has been completely supportive of my ideas. I do feel that everyone in the theology class would agree that my project considerably improved the world. In addition to exposing little-known articles and information on world wide conflicts and war issues, my project has allowed me to show how an under represented population feels about war to several important government officials. The project, in this aspect, therefore gave me the opportunity to branch out to others and help their voices be heard in at least our American government. Not only have I steered their voices in a direction straight to four of our potential presidents, but I have put up a strong argument to force the candidates to think again about going to war, destroying property, destroying lives, and ultimately destroying our world. Hopefully my project has helped establish the beginning steps to living in a new world without warfare.

I have written all of my blogs entries to the best of my ability, and I am happily satisfied with each of them. The blog entries clearly show evidence of the extensive work that I put into my project. In the blogs, I have included the article sources that were posted on my web page. I have also shown the questions that I came up with regarding each of the articles. Documentation of my work is also shown for the survey that I created and used to send to the four presidential candidates. The blog entries also show that I have read, listened, and understood the course readings, lectures, and discussion topics. I also believe that the blog entries expressed my ability to think critically and to communicate clearly and effectively. One example of my critical thinking is from the unique project idea that I came up with for the semester. In addition to answering the blog questions, critical thinking was required for creating both the article questions and especially the questions for my survey. I feel clear communication was used in both my blog entries and in my survey. Every last one of my blog entries were checked for spelling and grammatical errors, and were edited if necessary. If there were any overlooked errors, I am sure that they were rare. For each of the blogs I have successfully written more than the required 1000 words. Many of my blog entries were submitted on time. Any of the blogs that were late were submitted no more than one week late.

My project and writings fully exemplify Xavier’s mission. The project clearly promotes a more just and humane society by forcing our leaders and society in general to choose a more sane way of life. My project promotes a world that is against the act of humans killing other humans in order to resolve major conflicts. These major conflicts that come about world wide can be solved through simple communication. My project effectively spreads these ideas which create a more just and humane society. Through the implementation of my project I have assumed roles of leadership by creating and conducting an authentic examination with various participants. By providing my own website, leadership roles are essential. Through the website, I have been of service to society, informing the public of the important news that rarely gets coverage in our country.
