Vive la Louisiane: Francophone Links

French is a significant vehicle for expression in many cultures. United by their common language, French speakers live on all five continents and represent citizens of many different nations. The following links lead to sites about francophonie throughout the world, including several in Louisiana.

  • Africa Online
    Comprehensive gateway site to African nations and agencies. News and cultural articles and political critiques. For French, go to the "Switch Language" link.

  • AfroMix
    Trilingual site (French, English, Spanish) with links arranged by country, artist, style, year and instrument. Many artists listed with audio files, genre and biographical information.

  • BBC Languages/ French
    An excellent site with comprehension drills for all levels. Activities include video clips with exercises as well as texts with audio files and questions.

  • Bienvenue à Haïti Contact
    Part of the Réseau électronique francophone d'information. Links to information about history, economic life, art and music, and travel in Haiti.

  • Bretagnia-Louisiana
    Site rich in links to many aspects of Louisiana culture. Soon to be updated, it contains information about the upcoming celebration of the bicentenary of the Louisiana purchase.

  • Dalila Fridi
    This is the personal page of Ms. Dalila Fridi, a Berber-speaking Algerian living and working in Chicago. A computer analyst and Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Ms. Fridi gives information about Algerian musicians, with a special page dedicated to women in music, as well as general info about Islam and beautiful photos of Algeria. Text in English.

    Site of the cultural association France-Louisiane/Franco-Américanie, with many links to cultural topics as well as announcements of current activities. See especially the section "A la Découverte de la Louisiane et des Acadiens".

    A site with daily French lessons, language practice, chat rooms, dictionaries and other reference works. Links to grammar, vocabulary, reading and writing, and listening exercises classified according to difficulty.

  • La Route du Blues
    Ethnocultural site with discussion of history and performance practices of the blues in the American south. Comprehensive French text. Many useful links to sites in French and English.

  • Le Grand Dictionnaire terminologique
    Excellent bilingual dictionary; especially useful for technological terms. Multiple word fields presented for most words.

  • Le Quartier français du village planétaire
    From the University of Richmond. Comprehensive cultural, historical, and pedagogical links. Particularly useful for French teachers, with many possibilities for virtual travel and cultural projects.

  • Louisiana Travel--About Us
    The travel and tourism site for the state. Comprehensive and richly illustrated. In English.

  • Musique amazighe/ Amazigh music
    Music from the Berber-speaking region of Kabylia in Northern Africa. Selection of clips representative of different musical styles. Site offers many links to other pages of interest in French, Berber and English.

  • Musique amazighe/ Amazigh music
    Trilingual (French, English, Berber) musical site sponsored by the Berber cultural association Azamazigh.

  • Musique du monde/World Music
    Site in French (w. link to English version) containing news of festivals, bands, and individual artists from the Francophone world. Clips on site require RealPlayer (free download available).

  • Musiques à la Clef--Cajun, Zydeco, Blues, Gospel
    Extensive links to many sites of interest concerning the different genres of music in Louisiana.

  • Nomade France
    A home page with hundreds of links to sites of interest, including news, weather, sports, the economy, fashion, education, and technology.

  • Service Vie
    A comprehensive health and nutrition site from Québec. Three sections, Alimentation, Santé, and Forme, contain advice about exercise, health issues, and proper diet. The Alimentation section has many excellent recipes and information about herbs, spices, and other culinary topics.

  • Tennessee Bob's Famous French Links
    Over 10,000 links to sites of interest in all aspects of French and Francophone culture. Language practice, virtual tourism, literature, and many other references. Particularly strong in medieval French literature, especially in Villon studies.

  • Tunisie.com Culture de la Tunisie
    Tunisian cinema, theatre, music, culture, history, and economic life. A page on mosaics is included and worth a special visit.

  • WoYaa! Africa Homepage
    Arts, education, sports, culture, business and economic life, media, technology; this site includes country-specific links for each nation in Africa. Bilingual.
