Comments on Teaching and Learning at Xavier: I think one of the most important aspects of teaching is to understand who you are as a person and to allow your personality to permeate your teaching methods. I enjoy making connections between my everyday world and my discipline, thus I use clips from movies and television programs, images, and music in the classroom to highlight certain ideas or to promote discussion. I've also incorporated group projects, in-class writing, Blogs, and lecture in order to appeal to various learning styles. I also seek student input about the methods that I use. They can fill out an anonymous survey on my website, through BlackBoard, and on the class Blog. I feel that Xavier's Center for the Advancement of Teaching has introduced me to a variety of teaching styles and approaches.
