Comments on Teaching and Learning at Xavier: Xavier is a very special place and very quickly one gets submerged in its culture. The teaching and learning atmosphere at Xavier is extremely conducive. I enjoy the one-on-one relationships with my students. I think it brings a new dimension to the learning process. The Center for the Advancement of Teaching has also helped me in improving my teaching skills. I have attended many workshops sponsored by CAT but the one that I enjoyed most was the "Active Learning" workshop. That experience helped me develop many case studies/projects to incorporate active learning ideas. Tips -- enjoy what you do, raise your expectations and challenge your students, and keep a sense of humor.
