Comments on Teaching and Learning at Xavier: I do not see myself as a teacher. I see myself as a facilitator. I have been trained to master a body of information. I enter a classroom to accomplish two goals. First of all, to set up the necessary environment and conditions for energy to be transformed so that production can take place. And to present information such that if students see the merit in what is being presented, and move to accept that information for engagement they will, in turn, educate self. I am interested in encouraging individuals to actualize their potential.
Note: Dr. Dorris is an Endowed Professor in Liberal Arts/African American Studies and English
