For most of you I would say that keep writing. That's so important, but to lend an exercise to you... Find an old photograph of perhaps your great grandparents. Look at the photograph, record what you see in the photograph, write or imagine, you have to imagine an event, what the photographer might be doing and also you have to imagine the story of the person who is in the photograph. So invent, or create a story and then employ some history of that particular period, so please do some research, incorporate some history, write about that person's life, what was happening during that time, maybe include the person's favorite food, favorite clothing, what he or she did, pastime like maybe quilting and so forth. Write the poem.
