Summer Surfing
Welcome to Xavier University and the Center for the Advancement of
Teaching. We're happy you have taken time to be here today, as we know
your summer vacation days are numbered!
Today we are going to provide you a menu from which you will have a
few choices. The appetizer will be a brief (really, it will be brief)
presentation on a few aspects of the World Wide Web.
Following this presentation, we invite you to work through a tutorial
titled How the Web Works: Introduction to the Web. This tutorial is
designed to teach you some of the basics of operating a Web browser and
finding information on the Web. This tutorial will guide you through the
following steps:
- Starting Netscape
- Following links
- Using bookmarks
- A button-by-button tour of the toolbar
- Using the Netsite/Location field
- An extensive menu-by-menu tour of the browser's features.
Finally, we have a buffet of entrees that includes annotated links to
several mathematics websites.
We also have links to websites on several artists including:
And last, we have links to a handful of general resources for lesson planning.
We hope you find something here that is appealing and will assist you
in your teaching and your students in their learning.
