Reflections On What I Learned
October 8, 2002
My reason for wanting to participate in this Computer Technology class was because I felt that my expertise on the computer was minimal. I basically use the computer for word processing and e-mail. I wanted to learn to use the digital camera and scanner so that I could use with my students. I would like to eventually write a grant to secure funding to purchase a digital camera. I was awarded a grant a couple of years ago and purchased a scanner. I thought I’d teach myself, but have not been very successful and the scanner has just been sitting in my classroom. I have had other individuals to show me, but I thought I needed a class to show me how.
Today’s lesson was on using the Digital Camera. The camera used today was a
Sony 10X FD Mavica. Ms. Rhodes showed us parts of the camera and discussed the difference between digital and analog. Additionally, she discussed formatted discs verses unformatted discs. The hands on activity involved actually using the digital camera to take each other’s picture and store on a floppy disc. Then, we wrote reflections for the day and inserted our images on our reflections page. Ms. Rhodes also showed us how to resize or crop the image. The small ratio really, really, makes for optimal learning. I tend to need more one-on-one, just like some of the students we teach! (smile)
