About:
Evelyn Turner
Evelyn Turner was born on March 25, 1951 in New Orleans, Louisiana. She lived with her mother, a seamstress in a sewing factory, and her father who worked in the post office. At the age of fifteen she moved into the Desire Housing Projects. This move had a major impact on her life. Living in this housing project, she found herself caught up in some of the Black Panther activities. By protesting and picketing on Canal Street she helped integrate department stores and restuarants.
Mrs. Turner has always been involved in organizations to better the community. She now works for an organization called Trinity Christian Community. Located in what is considered one of the most dangerous communities in New Orleans, a place called Hollygrove. The ministry is turning Hollygrove into a safe Godly environment. As a member of The New Genesis Bible Church, Evelyn is an active member of the Evangelism/Outreach Committee.
She helps better the community in any way she can.
