African American Women's History

This course will examine the history, experiences, and narratives of African American women from the period of slavery up to the present. We will explore the contributions of these women to the economy, culture, and society in America during the antebellum period and after the Civil War. We will also trace the activities of African American women throughout the twentieth century, focusing in particular on the lives of ordinary women.
