Better Practices in Improving Teaching and Learning: Models, Processes, and Pitfalls

In this session, Dr. Gurung will bridge the gap between assessment as normally discussed in higher education and the practice of the scholarship of teaching and learning. He will first present some key goals for educators across disciplines, demonstrate a common process for the scholarship of teaching and learning, provide examples of different models of teachings and learning research, and end with some key pitfalls in conducting such research. Participants are urged to bring their syllabi and pet peeves about learning to aid in the development of future course modifications and assessments of the effects of their changes.
